Are you brave enough to go slick back?
25th OF September 2012
As seen sauntering down the runways of Rag & Bone, Paul Smith, J Crew and Alberta Feretti–slick back hair is BIG this season. Do you dare to slick back your hair? We show you how to recreate the semi-slicked back hairstyle trend, sans looking like an oil slick…
Whether you opt for seriously sleek completely slicked back hair, or half-wet-half-dry textured tresses–no matter which way you wear it, you can’t go wrong with slick back hairstyle this Spring/Summer.
The great thing about this trend is it works for any hair lengths, from short to long, and is the perfect way to keep sweaty strands off your face during the summertime heat. Win!
The raked-back all-wet-look-hair trend a la Alberta Feretti’s Spring/Summer 2013 show–is all about effortlessly-nonchalant hair, as though you’ve just stepped out of the pool, surf or shower, given your hair a quick comb back with your fingers, and left to dry.
The half-wet, half-dry, semi-slicked back look shown on the Rag & Bone Spring Summer runway is all about keeping the body of the hair dry, while the crown is slicked back–keeping the face in the focus. This look is great for those with straight or wavy hair, however curly haired-gals can achieve the look by straightening their hair first.
Step 1: To get the look, start by running some mousse through the body of damp hair (we love L'Oréal Professional TechniArt Full Volume Extra Mousse RRP $25.00 Stockists Ph 1300 651 141) and apply a root lifting product to the roots of the hair (we love EVO Root Canal RRP $26.95)
Step 2: Blowdry the hair back (for a textured take on this trend, you can use your GHD to create beachy waves, or alternatively, flat iron your tresses for a super sleek finish)
Step 3: Using a sculpting gel (we love TIGI Bed Head Powertrip Hair Gel RRP $27.95) slick through your hair through your roots to the area above your ears.
Step 4: Run a wide toothed comb through your hair, beginning at the forehead, through to the back of your head. Spritz some hairspray (we love Tresemme Salon Finish Hairspray Extra Hold RRP $7.99 Stockists Ph 1800 061 027) to set the style.
