Halloween Makeup Masterclass

6th OF October 2012

You might have your costume sorted, but how do you seal the deal with your makeup? Follow these makeup steps to Halloween perfection for the likes of Cleopatra, Cinderella and a Vampire Vixen.

by Anna McDougall

Cleopatra

1. Perfecting your skin tone is paramount in achieveing the dewy, sunkissed, Cleopatra look.
Apply your regular foundation and use powder to set it.
Lighter complexions will need a terrific bronzer, or you can get a perfect natural tan with ModelCo Face Tan ($38).

2 Apply your base eye shadow. Use earthy or light brown hued eye shadows as the base of your Cleopatra eyes. Generously apply over the lid.

3 Now for the smoky effect. Using a dark brown or black eye shadow, contour the crease of your eye. Apply the darker shade liberally and make sure to blend properly.

4 Add a little colour. Most Cleopatra makeup looks incorporate blue or green eyeshadow to accentuate the eyes. Apply enough as to not overrule the smoky look. Alternatively you can make the colour your main focus to your eye look - it's up to you!

5 To create those hot, large and cat-like Cleopatra's eyes, use a black eyeline to create the winged look. Line your eyes carefully with the liquid liner. Extend the line about ¼ of an inch past your actual eye. Repeat this step on your bottom lash line.

6 Apply falsies. Rescu recommends anything from the Napoleon Perdis range.

7 Apply lipstick. Depending on your mood, customise with a crimson red for a sexy Cleopatra, or to be more authentic opt for a bronzed or nude lip.

Cinderella

The great thing about dressing up as a Disney Princess, is you can go all out on makeup colours and techniques. (See Gwen Stefani below).

1. Apply foundation as usual, being careful to exactly match your skin tone. Apply your regular foundation and use powder to set it.

2. For those endearing rosy cheeks, use a pink-toned blush on the apples of your cheeks. Try Burberry Beauty Light Glow Natural Blush in Blossom ($70)

3. For the eyes, generously apply a pearlescent blue shadow over the lids, for a more dramatic and cartoonesque effect, extend up to under the brows.

4. Use a liquid liner on the top lash line, for that doe eyed look and finish with false lashes or Mirenesse Instant Lash Transplant ($89)

5. For the lips, continue the cute, innocent Cinderella look with a pink lippy, we recommend Revlon ColourBurst Lipstick in Candy Pink or Pink Sugar ($23.95).

Vampire Vixen

Earlier this year INIKA released the Le Rouge et Le Noir colour story inspired by their love of all things dark and mysterious, fascination with eternal love and immortality. This look features dark and powerful, green smokey eyes coupled with an Electric Red lip. We thought the look is perfect to create the Vampy Vixen, to get you in the blood-drinking, neck-biting spirit of Halloween.

1. Apply foundation as usual, being careful to exactly match your skin tone. Apply your regular foundation and use powder to set it.

2. Use emerald green eyeshadow as your base for the lids. Apply generously all of the lid, right to the corners as well as underneath the bottom lash line.

3. For eyeliner, try Inika's Certified Organic Eyeliner in Black Caviar for a deeply lined eye, apply top and bottom and smudge slightly for the smoky effect.

4. Add false lashes or a lash-boosting mascara to complete your vampy eyes.

4. Try Inika's Mineral Lipstick in Electric Red for your vampiest pout yet! Ue a similarly coloured lip liner for extra drama.
