How To Revitalise Lacklustre Locks
18th OF September 2012
Winter can take its toll on our locks, leaving them limp, lank and seriously lacking in lustre. Never fear, springtime is here! And that spells a new lease on life–even for dry, damaged, and tired tresses. Trade that hair-mare for healthy hair ASAP with our tips on how to revitalise lacklustre locks… By Katie Martlew
How To Healthy Hair: Revitalise Lacklustre Locks…
Healthy hair (nails and skin) begins with a proper diet! Maintaining a diet rich in oils like Vitamin E and Omega 3 will help your hair grow healthy and strong, and up the shine factor. Think nuts, seeds, olives, dark leafy greens, and avocado. Some good oils that boost hair shine are coconut, sunflower and soybean oils. Also, make sure you’re eating enough protein (the building block of hair), and for the vegetarians among us–eggs are a great source of protein. Be sure to drink plenty of water too–just like your body needs water to stay hydrated, your tresses do too!
Get regular trims
Trimming your hair every 6-8 weeks will rid of hair damage– and will encourage hair to grow faster!
Steer clear of sulfate
Ditch that nasty sodium laurel sulfate shampoo and conditioner (and any hair products that contain lanolin or silicones as these ingredients dry out and damage hair). Instead, opt for a shampoo that’s rich in vitamin E and other natural nourishing products, and try to wash your hair less frequently as over-washing strips the hair of its natural oils (ideally, 2-3 times per week is enough).

Cold water cure
The easiest (and cheapest) way to instantly inject shine and lustre into damaged hair is to blast your hair with cold water at the end of your shower. This will smooth down and seal the hair cuticle, allowing it to reflect light rather than absorb it–which makes for instantly shiny, healthy hair!
Protect against heat styling
Try to give your hair a few days off from heat styling tools each week, and when you do use them, minimise the damage by using a thermal protection spray prior to using your GHD or hairdryer. A heat protection spray works WITH your heat styling tools to help lock in moisture, and add a healthy dose of instant shine to the hair.

Treat your tresses to a treatment
For an instant damaged hair fix, treat you hair to a little TLC with an overnight, protein-packed hair treatment. You’ll awake from your beauty slumber with softer, shinier tresses.

Switch Alcohol for Hair Oil
Steer clear of styling products that contain alcohol, as these will only strip the hair of natural oils. Instead, opt for a nourishing hair oil, that will boost shine, hydration and restore damaged hair.
