Master a messy bun in five minutes flat...
Step 1: Texturise
The key to really mastering a messy bun is to create lots of texture, just like the lovely Jessica Biel has above. Also, an up do hairstyle works best with hair that’s not freshly washed, to save slipperiness. Prep the hair by massaging a volumising mousse through the midlengths of the hair, out into the ends (we love Tresemme 24 Hour Body Amplifying Mousse RRP $7.99 Stockists Ph.1800 061 027) then backcomb the hair to give it lots of volume and texture.
Step 2: Pony up!
Finger comb your hair back and pull hair up into a high ponytail (or a low pony if you are going for a chic low messy bun hairstyle). Don’t pull hair back too tightly as you need a little looseness to create that effortlessly textured look.
Step 3: Wrap it up.
Gently backcomb the ponytail, twist and then loosely wrap around the hair elastic, securing with bobby pins. Gently loosen bun a little (remember, you’re going for that effortlessly messy hairstyle so don’t try to make it too perfect).
Step 4: ready, set go!
To finish the look and set the style–spritz with a humidity resistant hairspray to banish frizz and minimise flyaways (we love Humidity Resistant Firm Hold Hairspray RRP $4.40 Stockists Ph. 1800 061 027). Tip: Now, once you mastered your messy bun, get experimental and try the uber pretty low messy side bun. Just follow the same steps as above, but position the ponytail low and to one side of your head. Easy peasy!
