Alex Perry's Top Looks from the 2012 Golden Globes
13th OF February 2012
Golden Globes Glam and Beyond: Alex Perry weighs in on his favourite frocks from the Golden Globes and tells us how we can take everyday inspiration from these looks.
It’s my favourite time of year – Hollywood Awards Season! A box office bonanza of unashamed gawking at celebrities, gossiping about their freshly botoxed faces, gushing over their fashion triumphs and best of all - sniping at their fashion flops.
The Best and Worst that has nothing to do with movies, and everything to do with primped and primed glamour. So how can you take everyday inspiration from the Stars glossy looks? Follow me down the ruby rug as I show you how, with some my favourite gowns from this years’ Golden Globes...
1. Angelina Jolie (in Atelier Versace)
BOLD
K.N.O.C.K.O.U.T. This is true Hollywood in every sense. Take a pearly white sheen, add a slash of bold red and Brads black suit, and voila - you have a powerful and classic colour combo that wins every time. This polished graphic look translates perfectly into everyday work-wear. Think about a white tailored dress suit with chic accents of black and red for the office. Accessorise with the perfect red pout. Or Brad.
2. Sophia Vergara (in Vera Wang)
NAVY
The woman is a bombshell! I have long loved inky Navy frocks both for evening and day. Just make sure the fabric is textured enough and the design a little bit fun and frivolous to off-set the seriousness of the dark colour. It’s a good idea to keep styling simple with such a strong evening look; but for daytime add a splash of brightly coloured accessories.
3. Emma Stone (in Lanvin)
GRECIAN
Grecian style is really easy and fun to wear for a casual or party look. Look for super short, or to the knee day dresses in soft chiffon fabrics, either printed or plain colour. Experiment with styling with tousled up do’s or wavy loose hair, headbands, armfuls of bangles and playful brooches and belts.
4. Reese Witherspoon (in Zac Posen)
RED
An effortless modern Jessica Rabbit. When wearing Red, be sure to follow through head to toe (no black shoes please eek) and choose a classic timeless shape that is perfectly tailored. Keep everything else simple and super relaxed like Reese when wearing the strongest boldest colour of them all.
5. Claire Danes (in J. Mendel)
BACKLESS
For dinner, cocktail or party dressing, backless is beyond chic. Go for brightly coloured, graphic printed, sequinned or jewelled; micro short or demure knee length. The obvious point to consider is that you actually have a taut toned back to show off (yes Jessica Lang I’m talking to you!).
6. Natalie Portman (in Lanvin) and Paula Patton (in Monique Lhuillier)
BRIGHT COLOUR
A pop of colour is so hot right now. If you haven’t treated yourself yet to a shocking pink, bolt of cobalt, tangerine or canary yellow dress, jacket, jean, handbag or shoe – get onto it! NOW. Go for classic pieces like blazers, jeans or shift dresses.
See you on the red carpet of life looking fabulous!
Alex
