Milan Make Up Trends Straight From The Runway
6th OF March 2011
By Chloe Brinklow
New make up trends don’t magically appear out of thin air – they are born on the runway! Thought up and executed by some of the world’s best make up artists, we pick and choose what’s hot and what’s not! What we will be trying at home, and what will be staying put on the runway, at least until next season.
RESCU brings you the top 5 hottest M.A.C make up looks from Milan with tips and tricks on how to re-create them at home.
Peachy Keen At Iceberg
Golden and glossy, the make up at Iceberg created by M.A.C’s Charlotte Tilbury was fresh, dewy and full of sunset goodness. Bold orange tones have been making waves in the make up realm for quite sometime but at RESCU we are loving this down-played, peachy, almost nude version of the ‘it’ colour.
RESCU Tip: This colour looks great on eyes and lips but don’t over do it. Pair with a minimal, nude base and don’t forget to prime coloured areas first, for longer lasting wear. RESCU loves: Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot Lip Service ($28) and Benefit Stay Don’t Stray (for eyes - $45).
Dark Drama At DSQUARED2
A RESCU favourite DSQUARED2 fashion, hair and make up didn’t disappoint! Inspired by Nicole Kidman in Cold Mountain, a gritty sun kissed base was paired with dark, smouldering eyes and mascara-drenched eyelashes. The perfect look to recreate for evening wear, we loved the mix of bronze and black.
RESCU tip: With this look, you are creating the illusion that the eye sits on a diagonal angle. Using your favourite liquid liner (RESCU favourites here) draw the lower line underneath the eye, starting from the outside, and as you work your way to the inner corner, pull the liner down half a centimetre to create a gap between the liner and eye. Fill the gap with a little bit of brown shadow to finish. Perfect!
Bold and Beautiful At Etro
Let’s face it, bold brows are old news! Everyone is talking about them and most girls are including beefed up brows in their daily look. So why are the bold brows at Etro worthy of making our trend list? They were masculine yet soft, not too over the top, dark or overdone. We love!
Application tip: When it comes to defining brows, there is a fine line between Bert and Ernie - A don’t! And Bambi (Not the cartoon deer, the stunning Aussie model who has brows that are to-die-for). To really nail ‘Etro’ bold brows, use M.A.C eyeliner pencil in colours, fling or lingering, or try the MAC Brow Shader ($32). Start small, remembering you can apply more product if needed.
Popping Pouts At Missoni
At RESCU we can’t get past big, bright lips, and do you blame us? The easiest way to add sophistication, colour and fun to any look, bold lippy is here to stay! The best way to nail the look is by working with seasonal colours and the Missoni pinky plum lips couldn’t be a better example! Bright oranges and hot pink are typically summer shades and look great against tanned skin. Darker colours like plum, raspberry and purple are bang on trend for cooler weather and look great against minimal make up.
RESCU tip: Don't be shy to try this fabulous trend, we guarantee once you find a shade that suits you, you won't want to take your lippy off, ever!
Ultra Violet At Marni
Notebooks out girls, this season’s hottest colour is Purple. No matter what the variation - light, pastel, bright or bold, for lips, eyes or even cheeks - purple hues are in! The Make Up Look at Marni was dewy and grungy with the use of colour-of-the-moment, purple all over the face adding a playful feel.
RESCU tip: If your not a fan of too much violet, why not experiment with a little coloured mascara or eyeliner to ease into the trend? Accentuating one feature works a treat and you won’t be too far out of the comfort zone. RESCU loves: Benefit BadGal Plum Mascara ($38) and Artiste Popping Punk Duo Angle Liner + Rounded Smudge Brush ($18.95)
