Sneak Peek: Prada/Vahram Muratyan T-Shirt Collection
1st OF July 2012
Which is the most fashionable city - Paris or New York?
Stylishly Yours, Jennifer Thorpe
That was the starting point for graphic designer Vahram Muratyan, who started a now-wildly popular blog cheekily comparing the two cities' styles in gorgeous graphics. It got him a book deal, and now it's brought him into fashion, with Prada signing a T-shirt deal to feature his newest designs.
We don't blame them - the face-off images on the blog, which feature macaroons versus cupcakes and Godard versus Woody Allen, are pop-culture comment at its best, and RESCU loves his clean, simple lines.
The Prada T-shirts are a one-off and will only be produced from July, to fit into the spring/summer 2011 collection - the one featuring shoes which looked like 1950s cars. It started with a look-book, where Muratyan put the pieces from the collection into their own little universe - the look-book was called 'Parallel Universes' - and now it's expanded to the real world.
So even if you can't afford the vintage-feel, retro-tastic Prada line, you can have them on a T-shirt. We can get behind that.
They're not inexpensive - 150 euro per T-shirt - but Prada clearly feels they're investing in the art world. iD magazine is already raving about the collaboration, calling it 'pure pop art magic'.
Will you be getting a Prada + Muratyan T-shirt?
