Fashion Wrap: Carine Roitfeld Joins Harper's Bazaar & Cara Delevingne Goes Hollywood

16th OF October 2012

Movers and shakers are in the news this week, from French editors to English models.  Read on for the gossip on what Carine Roitfeld did next...

Carine Roitfeld Joins Harpers Bazaar

RESCU's been following Carine Roitfeld ever since she quit French Vogue in a cloud of indignation last year.

Her moves ever since have been scandalous all the way.

First she's set up her own rival magazine, CR Fashion Book, with a pedigree to die for - and poached all the best models, photographers and writers in the business to work for it.

Now she's going in for more revenge, with a new posting at Harper's Bazaar, an arch-enemy of the Vogue empire.

Why are they enemies? They're owned by rival companies, of course. Vogues worldwide are funded by Conde Nast, while Harper's Bazaar is owned by media magnate Hearst.

So far, so business - but Roitfeld's not going to be alone at Harper's.

She's the Global Fashion Director, and she's been appointed by the head of Harper's Bazaar itself, Stephen Gen. They're old friends, and are teaming up to show Vogue just what they can do.

It's a big move - Roitfeld's work will be in every worldwide edition of Harper's Bazaar in 26 countries, as opposed to her Vogue Paris rule.

We're betting Conde Nast will say the feud is long over - but Roitfeld, at least, seems to be burning her bridges. Isn't fashion gossip delicious.

Cara Delevingne Breaks Hollywood

She's a favourite at Burberry, and now Cara Delevingne appears to have made the jump from model to actress.

She nabbed a role in the beautiful - if critically panned - Anna Karenina early this year, and now Sadie Frost has gone on the record saying she's dying to work with her.

The English teen is following in the precarious footsteps of a few models who've tried to put a foot in both camps, and it hasn't always worked out.

Lily Cole's movie career was derailed when Heath Ledger, who was starring with her in The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus, died, throwing the movie into chaos. She's since been in bit parts in Snow White & The Huntsman, and is now more focussed on working with The Body Shop.

Gemma Ward's had more luck on a small scale, getting rave reviews onstage in Australia, but is yet to make the really big starring leap.

And Agyness Deyn is shaping up to try her own luck, appearing as a stripper in Pusher, out later this year. She was Aphrodite in Clash Of The Titans, which was a box-office failure.

What do you think - should models stick to modelling, or should movies have a few more unearthly faces?
