Your Spring/Summer Fashion and Beauty Guide

David Jones and Myer fashion parades have always shown the best of Australian designers, so I was really excited to fly back in from London to cover the red carpet and backstage for Rescu.

Arriving into Sydney the day before, my luggage decided to take its own trip and my lack of tan revealed the temperamental English summer it had been. Thankfully our friends at Alex Perry and Rebecca Vallance lent me a range of gorgeous red carpet worthy dresses and with and easy spray of organic, Australian fake tan product Vani-T, which can be washed off in just an hour (available at The Bronzing Boutique in Double Bay) I looked like I had actually been somewhere tropical.

Backstage at David Jones the talented and hard working teams from Aveda and Napolean were working away, on the best of Australian model's including Samantha Harris, Bambi, Montana Cox and Miranda Kerr. I was lucky enough to experience a wonderful treatment using luxurious Aveda products at the newly renovated Aveda Tribe Salon concept spa in Paddington and a glossy make over at Napolean where I learnt about star products like Boudoir Mist spray foundation and 'The One'.

As it got closer to show time Napoleon chatted to us and gave us some red carpet makeup tips. Jason Dundas told us about living in New York and what he would be taking back to wear from the DJs collections. Miranda, Montana, Bambi and Samantha rehearsed and gave us their tips and we got a sneak preview of what we were going to see that night.

The Red Carpet (or black in both cases) was filled with some of Australia's most successful red carpet designers, including a glowing Collette Dinnigan, Camilla and Marc Freeman, Gail Elliott, Camilla Franks and Alex Perry, who all stopped to give us their tips. It was so great to also get to catch up with friendly faces. Looking gorgeous in bright colours was Lee Watson (nee Furlong) and Terry Biviano, and chic in black was Lara Bingle and Kate Waterhouse. 

The show itself was filled with maxi dresses, cut out swimmers including the beautifully printed new swimming costume range by Collette Dinnigan, brights and neons and a show-stopping red bejewelled one shouldered gown by Alex Perry which Miranda sasheyed down the catwalk in.

Two days later it was off to Myer. Backstage we sat down with the two gorgeous and charming Myer Ambassadors Jennifer Hawkins and Kris Smith. Jennifer gave us special tips for glowing skin, chatted about her wedding fitness regime, her hair, her stylish and affordable new range of shoes JLH, which I was lucky enough to be wearing and her evolving style. Kris told us that real men can wear pink and gave us a sneak peak into the colours he would be wearing down the catwalk. We also compared Aussie men and English men, and he revealed what it is that men really liked to see their ladies wearing.

Now knowing how we should be dressing we were lucky enough to also learn how to achieve flawless, glowing skin with YSL products and va va voom hair with Kevin Murphy.

There was a buzz on the red carpet as glossy stars went all out to shine. Kate, Tom and Hoda Watethouse took out the award for best looking family, Jennifer was shimmering in gold, Kris was uberstylish in a form fitting tailored black suit, golden girls Sophie Faulkiner, Kelly Landry, Melissa Doyle and Sass and Bide all looked like they were ready for the Oscars themselves- no one would have believed these glamazons were also mothers!

As Jennifer strutted down the runway with an army of pretty models we loved the out of Africa theme. Some of our favourite looks were Sass and Bides collection, Jennifer's own range of swimwear Cozi, Jayson Brunsdon and Toni Maticevski.

Its going to be a beautiful spring summer that's for sure!
