Children's Books: PAWS by Kathy Finikakos
18th OF October 2012
Paws by Kathy Finikakos is a brand new children’s book chronicling the adventures of a young bear named Paws.
With illustrations by Heath Mackenzie, we meet Paws and his father Roman, a famous dancing bear. People come from far and wide to see the famous Roman.
Yet Paws is restless and wonders about what else is out there in the big wide world:
"Did you have a big crowd today, Roman?" Paws would always ask.
"Yes, Paws," Roman would answer. "But it's not as good as dancing freely in the big wide world."
"What's the big wide world?" Paws would ask again.
"The big wide world is a big round noisy place," Roman would mutter.
"Where is the big, wide world, Roman? ...”
Enticed by the thought of adventure, Paws sets out to discover what the world has to offer and find his place in it. He soon discovers just how big and uncertain the world can be, and Roman must come to his rescue.
The text of this book is suited to older kids but the pictures are compelling enough to draw in younger children as well. The story is an imaginative and thoughtful exploration of the places youthful curiosity can take us, while the brightly painted illustrations are a treat to admire. This is particularly true for the beautifully expressive face of our hero Paws. Paws will be a delightful addition to your children’s library.
