Australian Celebrities Get Behind Sydney Unplugged

21st OF February 2012

Russell Crowe, Toni Collette, Anthony LaPaglia and Liev Schreiber will each direct a short film for the Sydney Unplugged project, an Australian version of 'New York, I Love You' and 'Paris je'taime'. The idea was conceived by Tropfest founder, John Polson.

“It’s no secret some hugely talented directors, actors and others either live here or are from here. It’s about time this talent got together to tell stories that showcase one of the world’s most beautiful cities. The people that have stepped up to take part in this project are beyond our wildest dreams," John Polsen has said.

To be shot in the second half of 2012, Sydney Unplugged will comprise twelve stories, each helmed by a different director, featuring big name actors in a geographically overlapping vignette style that has proven popular recently in the films Paris Je T'aime and New York, I Love You.

Producers John Polson (Tropfest, Swimfan), and Gary Hamilton (A Few Best Men), have assembled the cream of the crop of Australia’s filmmaking talent, both behind and in front of the camera that would excite any Hollywood casting director.

Other acclaimed directors have also been lined up, including David Michôd (Animal Kingdom), John Curran (The Painted Veil) and Rachel Ward (Beautiful Kate).

Sydney Unplugged will be released in 2013.
