Brad Pitt to star in new commercial as the face of Chanel N°5
5th OF October 2012
Award-winning actor Brad Pitt has teamed up with Chanel to star in a new campaign for their iconic 91-year-old scent Chanel N°5.
It’s the first time ever a man will be the face of a women’s perfume, and Chanel is confident to take the risk, believing their fresh take and ‘new perspective’ will re-vive the familiar fragrance.

“To keep a legend fresh, you always have to change its point of view,” Andrea d’Avack, President of Chanel Fragrance & Beauty told WWD.
“It is the first time we’ve had a man speaking about a women’s fragrance. We think very much that the perfume is a seduction between a man, a woman and the perfume. No.5 is our leading fragrance, and we are willing to make the investment to keep it on that level” d’Avack added.
Although Chanel refused to comment on how much the campaign is costing industry sources suggest it’s around the whopping $10 million mark for U.S advertising and another $4-7 million to hire Pitt for the role.
Chanel announced the collaboration with Pitt back in May, but now we’re less than two weeks away from seeing the highly anticipated project in the flesh.
Want to watch this historic moment unfold?
Chanel invites us all to stream the commercial online the moment it’s released!
The official invitation reads: “Join N°5 and Brad Pitt on October 15 at 8am AEST on the official Chanel YouTube channel for an unprecedented film experience celebrating the world's most famous fragrance.”
“For the first time, a man will give his view on the most feminine and legendary of fragrances” the invite adds.
Although many details have been kept under wraps, d’Avack revealed that the commercial, shot by Joe Wright, features Pitt speaking in a way that the viewer assumes he’s speaking to a woman, but then it becomes apparent he’s actually talking to the scent.
Pitt joins a host of celebrities who have fronted the renowned scent including Nicole Kidman and Vanessa Paradis.
But wait there's more!
Just as exciting, to celebrate this innovative new collaboration Chanel has released an exclusive short film in honour of the perfume's legendary history.
