Beyonce's Givenchy Gown and all the Celebrities at the Met Costume Institute Gala 2012
9th OF May 2012
The Met Costume Institue Gala is highly regarded as the biggest red carpet of the year (move over, Oscars!). The creme de la creme of celebrities, musicians, actors and of course Anna Wintour stepped out in fashion's finest to attend the Gala which this year celebrated Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparell. After all, you're only as good as you're last 'Met' gown, right, Beyonce?
If you haven't already heard, Beyonce made quite the stir in the Givenchy haute couture gown she wore to the The Met Costume Instute Gala in New York. Some thought it screamed, 'Baby? What baby?', with Beyonce cutting a statuesque figure on the red carpet just Just four months after Blue Ivy's birth. The gown incorporated a feathered train, the transparent panels, ombre, the bugle beads, made for the most head-turning gown on the crimson rug. While others thought the 'bum-baring' gown made her a contender for worst dressed at event held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
What do you think of the gown?
After Louis Vuitton's last collection all that shimmers is bang on trend. Sequins, beading, treated silk, mesh and crystals adorned the red carpet. The best on the carpet were hosts Carey Mulligan and Anna Wintour both in Prada, while Jessica Alba and Cameron Diaz glowed in Michael Kors and Stella McCartney respectively.
Victoria's Secret model Karolina Kurkova wowed in a full length backless gold creation and matching turban, designed by Rachel Zoe while Camilla Belle wore a stunning Ralph Lauren number.
In a rare public appearance Jessica Biel rocking a new blunt fringe and Justin Timberlake arrived arm in arm in a stunning Prada gown and Tom Ford tuxedo respectively. Men, take note!
Jessica Stam in Christian Dior and Melania Trump inMark Bauer. At least they weren't prosthetic implants under the skin. Jessica And Justin. J We can thank Louis Vuitton for all that glitters - after their last collection, shiny, shiny has become a massive trend. Sequins, beading, treated silk, mesh, crystals - it looks best in molten metallics or shiny, inky black. Mad about it. The best on the carpet were hosts Carey Mulligan and Anna Wintour both in Prada. Also cool were Karolina Kurkova in Rachael Zoe and Cameron Diaz in Stella McCartney The biggest trend of the night was backless. There weren't many boobs but lots and lots of backs. The best were from Rihanna in Tom Ford, CandiceSwanapoel in Rag & Bone and Renee Zellweger in Pucci. Chic Mary Kate Olsen got it so very right in this simple 20's inspired black satin gown from her own label The Row. She then did everything else right too. The perfect vintage drop bead bag (also 20's), just the right amount of bronzer (we never see her tan), immaculate matte rose lips and cool, bleached-out loose updo. Anya Rubik: Did you miss the Oscars? What part of the Angelina Leg Gate going viral passed you by? Yes you have extraordinary pins but this pose does no one - not you or the other most beautiful woman in the world - any favours. It's cheap and a little bit try-hard. Neither of which you are. Ok? The Business. I don't need to say anything. Well not much. Diane Kruger was wearing Prada and Diane Kruger is IT. The End.
