| | The South Pacific is a land of plenty: sun, sand, and surf, postcard-perfect palm trees, and friendly native folk. Speaking of the people, have you ever seen a dry-skinned, lank-haired Fijian? Clearly there is something in the coconuts. That something is Virgin coconut oil: a natural moisturiser like no other. Enterprising islanders, Gaetane Austin and her daughters discovered a way to distill and stabilise the skin-nourishing powers of cold-pressed virgin coconut oil. And so Reinu - an exotic line of lush bath and body products - was born. Fast forward 10 years and the all-women business is booming. The fabulously fragrant products (ah...frangipani, oh...tiare flower, and mmmm...pineapple) have attracted a global following (featuring in the goodie bags at The Emmys kind of helped!). Yet it's Reinu's philanthropic ethos that makes us love them even more; the brand's manufacturing pursuits have helped to revive local coconut plantations and support, employ and encourage Fijian communities far and wide. Power to the people. And the humble coconut. |
