As one of Australia's most respected and dedicated hair talents, Joh Bailey's name has become synonymous with beautiful hair, glamour and style.
His dedication to his craft has seen him rise to iconic status throughout the country and garnering him international recognition, ensuring his longevity as Australia's most loved stylist.
His salons have become institutions in Sydney and evolved into a brand, one that ventures way beyond its roots.
Joh opened his flagship salon in Double Bay in 1985 and since then, established salons in Sydney's CBD and Bondi Junction.
Best known as ‘hairdresser to the rich and famous’, he’s often accompanied his loyal following to Los Angeles, New York and London.
His special repertoire of women from all walks of life has given him an advantage over his peers. Instinctively knowing what women want, Joh has an outstanding ability to communicate and deliver above expectations.
Bailey and his team of highly trained stylists are consistently used by leading luxury fashion houses Chanel, Bvlgari, Giorgio Armani, Louis Vuitton and Gucci for their season launches. Their work features throughout the fashion pages of Harper's Bazaar, Vogue Australia, Elle and Marie Claire.
His celebrity clientele ranges from supermodels Elle Macpherson, Linda Evangelista to performers Kylie Minogue, Olivia Newton-John and Hollywood stars Eva Longoria, Kim and Khloe Kardashian and Paris Hilton.
In 2000, Joh was awarded the role as the official Hair Stylist for the opening ceremonies of the Sydney Olympic Games.
Now, he’s set his sights firmly on broadening his media work in Australia. His recent appointment as head stylist on Foxtel's Project Runway added to his regular appearances on Nine Network programs including Mornings with Kerri-Anne and 20 to 1.
"My look is classical and beautiful, always having a modern edge. My signature look is of a polished, slick and feminine woman. It’s been instilled into the culture of my staff and salons."
Joh says the biggest highlight of his career was working with the late Diana, Princess of Wales, during her 1997 visit to Australia.
His entry into this ultimate destiny came from his love of horses. As a young boy, he discovered his talent while braiding his prized thoroughbred Anika's mane, and so pursued his career in hairdressing.
His passion for horses stays with Joh as he competes at championship-graded equestrian events nationally with numerous accolades and ribbons.
Ita Buttrose's advice guides him daily, "It is extraordinary services that always sticks in anyone's mind." And so he stresses, "I would go to any client's house at any time, if need be. Their hair is a reflection of me and the business."
Joh also supports a number of charities including The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, Fashion Supports Breast Cancer, The Sydney Cancer Centre Foundation and Fashion for AIDS.
