The quirky Brit sensibility was stamped all over the collections and yet many designers surprised with a maturity that meant wearability and saleability.

By Chloe Brinklow

There is no denying that at fashion week, trends are born! New clothing, hair and make up styles are created and showcased with the power to dictate what we will be wearing for the weeks and months ahead. Rarely practical but always fresh and creative, RESCU brings you the best weird, wacky and wonderful hairstyles from London Fashion week.

And for the brave, tips and tricks to recreate them at home.

The Pleated Quiff at Sass And Bide

We already reviewed the Sass and Bide show here, but we just can’t get enough of the fresh and funky quiff pleat, created by Australian session stylist and ghd Guest Artist, Renya Xydis. An up-do with attitude, this look is best for an evening out with the girls, or a red-carpet, glitz and glamour event where you don’t mind experimenting with style.

Follow Renya’s Six Easy steps to get the look

1. Prep the hair with ghd Maximise Mousse and ghd Fat Hair Lotion, and dry in.
2. Starting at the back of the head, section the hair up to the crown.
3. Thoroughly tease each section for a slightly messy result, then smooth out with a ghd styler.
4. Brush each side of the hair back using a flat styling brush, then wrap inwards and secure with pins.
5. Take the front section of hair and brush both sides upwards, then push the top slightly forward to create a quiff, while directing the hair to sit one side.
6. Secure the ends by wrapping the hair under on each side and pinning at the top of the head near the crown. Finish off with ghd Ultimate Hairspray for extra hold.

Sky-high hair at Jacob Kimme

Channelling, the Elizabethan era combined with Alice in Wonderland the hair at Jacob Kimme was over-the-top and incredible. Not for the faint hearted, a girl who can pull off this look, is cool, comfortable in her own skin and confident enough to have all eyes on her when she enters the room.

RESCU tip: Even though the look doesn’t involve heat styling, teasing and excessive use of hairspray can be damaging to hair cuticle. If you’re going to give this one a go, be sure to have a hair treatment ready for when you get home. RESCU recommends: Dove Therapy Damage Therapy Intensive Repair Treatment Mask ($8.79)

Statement Punk at Charlie Le Mindu

Inspired by a Berlin wartime brothel, the hair was one of the tamer things on display, (and no, we aren’t kidding) at Charlie Le Mindu. Cutesie clothes made appearances but all eyes were on the varied hairstyles, especially the Supersized Mohawk (pictured left). With bright red tips and a black zigzag pattern, the hair almost looked out of place against the model’s clean and chic make up.

RESCU Tip: When creating any type of ‘big’ hair, a strong foundation is key. A strong hold gel must be applied to roots, with wax and spray creating super-strong hold for tips. While we can’t see longhaired girls going for this look any time soon, on short, to mid lengths it can look fierce and daring, even Pink wears her hair in a mohwak on the odd occasion.

Fairy Floss Pink And Crimps At Paul Costello

Last season we saw the my little pony, pastel coloured streaks worn by the likes of Abbey Lee Kershaw, but this season streaks just aren’t cutting it. Full head pastel colours walked down the runway at Paul Costello, and to make things crazier, were paired with a 90s-esque brushed out crimp and blunt bangs.

RESCU recommends: Pastel colours are some of the hardest to achieve, even for expert colourists. For best results go to a salon to update your colour, and to avoid fading, use a good colour lock shampoo and conditioner. RESCU loves: Color Endure Shampoo and Conditioner by Joico ($25.95)

By Chloe Brinklow

No longer reserved for around the house and working out, the ponytail has made a splash (and swish) at London Fashion week. Popping up at several shows from Johnathan Saunders to House of Holland, no matter the variation; high, low, fat, thin, teased or sleek, there is no denying, the ponytail is the new ‘it’ way to wear your hair.

Pantene’s global ambassador, Sam McKnight created swinging, swishing and shiny, 70s style ponytails for the Jaeger A/W 2011 show this week. Inspired by sporty, Central Park girls who toss their hair from side to side when they walk (we’re thinking very, Charlotte York from Sex and the city,) the gorgeous, natural and voluminous style, complimented the structured, slightly military silhouettes in the collection, giving a feminie, polished vibe without appearing overdone.

RESCU caught up with Sam McKnight to get tips and tricks to create the look.

A little more polished than your typical 10-second, throw up and secure ponytail, this look is still easy to achieve but just a little bit more time consuming.
“There is a lot of work that goes into this look,” Mcknight said.

Preparation

Start with freshly washed and conditioned hair RESCU loves: Pantene’s Always Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner ($7.99)
Product

Create Body

Work a body and volume building mousse through the crown section on damp hair. Rescu Recommends: High Hair Styling Mousse By Wella Professionals ($22)

Blow Drying
Blow dry using a soft bristled paddle brush to create a little volume to the hair at the crown of the head. If required apply a heat protection spray on the ponytail section. We love: Frizz-Ease Heat Defeat Protective Styling Spray by John Frieda ($15.99)

Securing the Ponytail

When hair is completely dry, pull the hair back into a ponytail, ensuring that the ponytail is placed in line with the temples and secure ponytail with elastic. RESCU tip: Remember to colour match with your own hair.

Finishing Touches
Using your fingers, slightly pull the crown section to create a little bit of height and a few flyaways, then immediately spray with a strong hold hair spray. RESCU recommends: Pantene Pro-V Body Builder Hairspray ($6.99) to hold the style

By Chloe Brinklow

Alexa Chung, Rachel Bilson and Anna Wintour may have been sitting in the front row at Burberry’s Prorsum A/W 2011 runway show, but behind them were onlookers from all over the world. In a fashion week first, live-streams were broadcasted globally from the Burberry show to 40 events world wide, from Piccadilly Circus to Beijing.

Christopher Bailey, Burberry chief creative officer said, “We have always used digital communication to deepen our connection with the customer and allow people all over the world to experience Burberry no matter where they are.”
As well as live-broadcasts, at Burberry Flagship stores, customers were offered a ‘buy-from-the-runway’ instant shopping experience (also available online at Burberry.com until the 28th February), giving the term ‘fast-fashion’ a whole new meaning. Not just about the clothes, in another industry first, Burberry and Itunes teamed up, to allow customers to download the shows soundtrack online, which featured music form Dusty Springfield, Adele and Roger Daltery.

The Clothes

Digital talk aside, true to form, Burberry didn’t disappoint in the fashion department either. In a sophisticated and composed display, all the colours of the rainbow were showcased, in variations of the classic Burberry check print and block colour fabrics to create trenches, military style blazers and chic dress designs.

Accessories kept things interesting, with a black and white almost Dalmatian print golf hat, (much like those seen at Topshop Unique) and black leather, wedge creeper shoes making appearances and sure to be this season's must haves.

The Make Up And The Hair

Hair and make up was effortlessly chic, giving off a-do-it-yourself-at-home aesthetic. Hair stylist, Neil Moodie created super low ponytails with a centre part, that were often tucked into the back of the garments. As many of the ensembles included hats, it was the perfect style to avoid ugly ‘hat’ hair!

Make Up by Wendy Rowe using Burberry products was kept natural and understated, avoiding anything too heavy, which would have created dark shadows paired with the hats. A light dust of grey shadow, a minimal base and a fawn lip gloss completed the sophisticated and stylish look.

RESCU Highlight

The collection made reference to the weather, and as each model walked out for the finale, in patent, clear ribbed rain coats, that guarded them from the snow falling form the rafters, (aka confetti, that looked very realistic) everyone at RESCU HQ started planning winter holiday escapes and a white Christmas, just so we could wear one.

By Chloe Schneider

Vivienne Westwood is never one to shy away from the bizarre and her Fall London Fashion Week collection was certainly no exception. Westwood’s eye for detail, wonderful mix of prints and block colours and unique beauty looks make for a seriously fantastic runway which was eagerly looked on by Boy George, Tracey Emin and more.
The show was held in a cathedral-like Royal Courts of Justice, a perfect setting for the anarchic theme of the show.

The Clothes

The Queen of Kook took the idea of Royalty to a weird and wonderful place this season with her signature tartan, plaid, masculine tailoring, bold colour and layering.
We’ve come to expect fabulous coats from Westwood, a product of her many years in the freezing London weather, and this collection was no exception. We loved the asymmetrical pieces, the deliciously chunky knits and the occasional inserts of more traditional pieces – like the purple, one shouldered, draped dress.
For many, Westwood is the very definition of the eclectic London look. Her crazy ensembles relic that of the Portobello Markets stylistas and her nod to Royalty and obsession with tartan give the whole collection a feeling that is undeniably British.
No, we cannot see ourselves wearing any of this out and about, but that’s what the runway is all about. Break it down and there are more than a few very wearable pieces and some fantastic style tips to follow.

The Make-up

There were so many different looks down the runway that we’re not even sure where to begin! Some faces were completely transformed by gold lacquer and rainbow face paint, resembling not models but works of art. One model strode the runway with a face of gold leaf and giant sunglasses on her face in a bold look that, although we would never replicate, we fell a little bit in love with.
While these incredibly painted looks were common on the runway, there were some models, like Daisy Lowe, whose rich berry lips, illuminated cheeks and prominent eyebrows were what stood out.

The Hair

Again, there was no such thing as consistency when it came to the hairstyles for Westwoods’ show. Oversized bowler hats and crowns completed by pink paint, ribbons and pom poms sat atop perfect curls and theatrical up-dos, all of which tied in with the Britannia theme. Other models wore rollers in their hair while another sported a pink colour that looked like an edgy, unruly version of Katy Perry’s famous pink wig.
No matter what the look, it was all about texture for the hair at Westwood.

If you’re anywhere near as obsessed with online shopping as we are, than you would have heard of (or blown your entire pay packet on) some of the brilliant high-street designs from Topshop.

Head designer, Karen Bosner took London Fashion Week by storm with an Autumn/Winter 2011 collection of cute and quirky creations that we are already saving up for.

RESCU Brings You Coverage, Tips and Tricks From The Topshop Unique Runway...

The Clothes

It was Cruella de Ville meets Minnie Mouse at Topshop Unique, with animal print taken to a whole new level. Inspired by the Disney film, 101 Dalmatians, the collection featured spotted and polkadot blouses, dress and skirts along with Dalmatian print fur and accessories.
There was a secondary influence from the 1930s and old Hollywood. With some cabaret style creations taking to the catwalk.

An adorable display remained chic, stylish and wearable, thanks to a smart move to keep most garments black and white and the collection composed.

The Make Up

More make up was used on the eyes than anywhere else on the face with a smudgy, lived in eye, created with heavy liner and a little charcoal eye shadow. False lashes were applied to keep the make up looking more polished and pulled together. The base kept minimal, only applying concealer to problem areas.

Cute additions like dog noses were painted on a few of the girls and 44 of the model's brows were bleached. Luckily, Aussie stunner, Bambi was not one of them, with her infamous big brows drawing attention, as always!

The Hair

Much like the Minnie Mouse headbands you buy from Disneyland the hair at topshop had the models looking like they had sprouted fist-size puppy dog ears overnight. Worn high on the dead, dual pony tails were folded over, to create cute-as-a-button buns and secured with adorable black velvet bows.

More on the playful side, this style would suit anyone who is confident and quirky. Super easy, it can be recreated in three steps.

1.	Parting – Remember back in the Britney Spear’s era (think hit me baby one more time) when all you wanted to do was rock out with school girl pony tails? Now remember how much of a pain it was to get a straight part? Using a fine toothcomb, start in the middle of the head and work your way to the back of the neck, trying to stay as straight as possible. This may take a few gos depending on how steady handed you are.

2.	The Pony Tails – The easiest part of this style, simply brush hair up and spritz with a strong hold spray. Securing two ponytails with hair ties that match the colour of your hair. Check in the mirror for symmetry.

3.	The Buns – A little different to the ballerina bun, all you need to do is fold ponytail in half, (and half again for longer hair) then secure with pins and add a ribbon to hide ends.

Expert Tip: Hair stylish Paul Hanlon suggests for shorter and thinner hair, adding some extensions at the base of the ponytails for density.

Voila, you now look like Minnie Mouse.
Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton, design duo behind the hugely successful Australian label, Sass and Bide, did more then just touchdown in London town on Saturday. On day one of London Fashion Week their collection exploded onto the runway with colour and vibrancy.

The Clothes

Challenging the typical androgynous A/W colour palette, Sass and Bide’s tribal patterns, sequins and orange, pink and yellow fabrics, brightened the London catwalk, channelling more of a Spring/Summer vibe.

Maxi Skirts, wrap around pants, low cut, belted blazers and loose fitting shorts were the focus of a wonderful and weird collection, that made us super proud of Australia’s most loved label.

Bad points? Having to wait for the clothes to make it to the racks, we want everything NOW!

The Make Up

Shu uemura’s international creative director, Kakuyasu Uchiide, wanted to create a fresh, natural and striking make up look, so the crazy clothes could do the talking, without interruption from loud make up. “My inspiration for this look was a carefree girl who has a happy go lucky approach to life,” Uchiide said.

To keep the look youthful. skin was kept dewy and luminous with Stage performer instant glow and Face architect illuminating moisture foundation (both by shu uemura). The eyes were a main focal point, featuring, of-the-moment beefed up brows and dark lined eyes.
Taupe nail polish was a huge nail trend a couple of seasons ago and now nudes are the next big thing in lipstick! If you don’t do bold lips, this is the perfect way to stay on trend without demanding attention!

The Hair

Not quite as quirky as the two-toned Mickey Mouse buns from Topshop Unique (more on that later) this up-do was still a little left of centre, but in a good way! Variations were made, depending on the model’s natural hair type, though all included a classic French roll, with one side worn neat and slick and the other featuring a rolling quiff, allowing wispy bits and flyaway’s to escape.

Recreate the perfect quiff with RESCU

1. Sectioning - A quiff can be worn on the front or side of the head, depending on your desired style. Section hair accordingly and secure excess hair in a ponytail or bun.

2. Teasing - Even though the end result is super smooth, to create volume you need to tease the hair at the base leaving at least 2cm of hair untouched at the front.

3. Smoothing
Using the unteased hair, pull back over already teased section and secure with pins. Rescu Tip: Pins are available in a number of different colours, match to your own hair colour for blend.

4. Secure
Last but not least, finish off and secure with a spritz of hair spray. RESCU loves: Design Zoom Force Strong Fix Spray by Matrix ($19.95) but don’t go overboard, this style is meant to be light, natural and fresh.

By Tali Shine

The rain worked in Burberry's favour on the final day of LFW. How else could security guards stand outside the show, wearing traditional trenches, holding Burberry printed umbrellas and looking as if they were actually part of an Ad campaign for Burberry?

The Burberry buzz had loudly started before we even got into the show.

Fashionistas were squealing with excitement at the facts that this season designer Christopher Bailey would not only stream the show in 3-D in locations all around the world, but more importantly; for a limited time civilians would actually be able to purchase items from the show on the label’s website, rather than waiting for months until it hits stores. Many spent most of the show trying to connect to the label's website on their Blackberrys, credit cards ready in their manicured hands.

We predict that the jackets have flown out of cyber space, aviation pun intended.

Whilst coats are always a major theme and style staple at Burberry and there were many to choose from (pea-coats, traditional trenches, military jackets and frock-coats), the main theme of the show was aviation and the coats that stole the show were the sheepskin flying jackets with their exaggerated collars, gold buttons, double buckle cuffs and shearling lining.

Apart from the strong aviation theme to his Fall 2010 show, Bailey also wanted to show “fabric manipulation and lots of detail”, which he did by combining the flying jackets with wisps of deconstructed lace in moss green, slinky silks and shimmering skirts worn over thigh high leather and lizard boots.

Burberry sure did earn its wings for Fall 2010.

By Tali Shine

It didn't matter that the final day of London Fashion week was raining and grey, because today was the day that London's favourite party girls selected what they would be wearing to parties all around town, thanks to their favourite party perfect designers who were all showing today.

Fit for a party princess @ Issa
What do you get when you cross the distinct styles of the Queen (quilted jackets, black capes, scarves around the head, neatly tied under the neck) with Jackie O (dark sunnies under those scarves, LBDs with embellished and heavily beaded necklines and prom dresses made mini) and Bianca Jagger (shimmering sequined numbers under those capes, bejewelled shoulders and pockets on those quilted jackets and sexy, slinky day dresses in prints of swirling purple, red and navy with saucy sweetheart necklines)?

Well, you get a wardrobe fit for a princess, or future princess as the case may be in the case of one of the label’s most devout followers, Kate Middleton.

The rest of the glitterati looked on with glee at the collection, which was shorter, sharper and more sparkly than the usual maxi filled Issa collection.

Talking of sparkly, the next two shows were Studio 54 fabulous, filled with all the colour, sequins and shimmer than our red soles could handle.

Jenny Packham
Jenny Packham had promised a collection that was “super cool, glamorous and slick” and she didn't disappoint.

Red satin dresses appeared with ruched and interesting collar details, shiny sequined panels and matching red stockings. Peek-a-boo cut out shimmering mini dresses clung to all the right curves and left little to the imagination.

The disco-diva also had plenty of other bright, bold choices too. Electric yellow gowns had chunky beaded belts and were worn with cobalt blue tights and the cobalt blue sequined gown outdid itself with sequin on steroid applications around the hem area.

Amanda Wakeley
Amanda Wakeley was in the mood for dancing too. Whilst her colour palette was more muted with blacks, taupes and chocolate brown being a major colour theme, there was also a slinky, sequined 70s feel to her show.

Capes swung from the models’ shoulders, revealing form-fitting black sequined playsuits. Fitted shimmering skirts were paired with cropped fur shrugs, midnight blue creations gave plenty of depth and nude shimmering gowns fell effortlessly to the ground and were paired with chunkier arm bands.

Tailored daywear appeared as leather tunics and skirts that fell effortless from the model’s body creating and easy, breezy feel that was not too structured or contrived.

By Tali Shine

Day three of London Fashion week was sure to be a busy one with quintessential English labels showing in many of our favourite London landmarks, including the Serpentine Gallery and Claridges Hotel.

Nicole Farhi
The day began with a clean and crisp start at Nicole Farhi, where clothes were classic and beautiful with a touch of romance.

In classic red, black and camel, came pleated coats worn over leggings, bright PVC skirts wrapped around simple black tights, and turtlenecks and dresses worn over footless tights.

Whilst the show started as pure polished daywear, with a little PVC thrown in, in the form of little black dresses and miniskirts, it soon moved on to romantic rose prints, draped and folded silk chiffons and delightful tulle dresses with sparkling stars delicately beaded on.

Antonio Berardi
Our day took a very seductive turn as we made our way to Antonio Berardi, a show filled with sexy tailoring and pure drama.

Models strutted down the runway in Louboutins, plum lipstick and belted fur coats with nothing underneath.

As the temperatures in the room began to rise, the fur was replaced with sheer chiffon shirts that paid homage to vintage YSL, tucked neatly into micro miniskirts, which revealed glimpses of suspender belts.

Despite the unquestionable sex appeal; the slashed skirts, the ultra tight dresses and the peek-a boo corsets worn under cropped jackets and pencil skirts with lace panels provocatively replacing fabric over the breast area, the clothes retained a classy feel rather than a trampy one. Partly due to a muted colour palette of elegant grey and deep red velvet, and partially due to the mastery of Berardi's corsetry techniques, which were utilised in this collection.

Sculptured collars, structured dresses and evening gowns with interesting asymmetrical necklines were aesthetically delightful.

Both men and women in the audience gasped in appreciation when the model wearing a high necked, floor length red velvet gown turned her back, revealing a deep cowl neck and a back covered in crystals.

By Tali Shine

Ready for more seduction after Nicole Farhi and Antonio Berardi, we headed to Christopher Kane, where the good girl turned bad was as obvious as the roaring of a motor bike.

Christopher Kane
Kane took black leather and embroidered it with flowers, applied lace, gems and studs and turned it into mini dresses, coats and pencil skirts.

Outfits were finished with sweet Mary-Jane shoes that continued and turned into cut out boots, extending up the models' long legs. And that's when we fell for the leader of the pack…

Paul Smith
Next, it was time to channel the quintessential English countryside at Paul Smith.

We are after all in England. A country where Upper Class English ladies do fence and do horse ride and do throw garden parties in their countryside estates - so it really is just as well that Paul Smith has taken care to create a wardrobe that is perfectly suited to their daily activities. From the riding jackets with equestrian printed lining to the yellow jackets with matching corsets and the sweet garden dresses.

But it was not just this aristocratic lady that Smith had in mind when he created his tailor maid collection. He was also thinking about 'the naughty daughter, who likes to sneak off to London and go to Rock concerts". Before sneaking off, she will raid her mother's wardrobe and borrow the long coats, slim line dresses and retro nightwear that she will apply leather belts to and punk up, making the look her quirky own.

And when the 'naughty debutant' returns to the countryside, she has delicious Paul Smith Fall 2010 a-line dresses in poppy and lavender (it is very chic to match the name of the colour of your dress to your own name you see) to wear with sweet cropped cardigans.

Pringle
In this countryside frame of mind, our day finished at Pringle, where we got a Scottish aristocratic feel.

Whilst we were a little confused to see Janet Jackson and Courtney Love in the front row, we figured that maybe they are both planning a trip to the highlands and want the perfect wardrobe filled with kilts, cashmere and leather.

In a fittingly Scottish colour palette of green, yellow, red and black, there were velvet trousers, kilted skirts and blazers. Perfect for the black tie dinner in the Castle, after a day of shooting, the elegant strapless evening gowns made of suiting fabric, with leather side buckles, were a glamorous end to the collection.

By Tali Shine

After Julien Macdonald and Jasper Conran, it was off to Aquascutum for a very different feel…

Aquascutum
If this entire collection suited one celebrity perfectly then it would be Angelina Jolie. Filled with the type of chic numbers that she is often seen jetting through airports in, on her way to save the world, there was luxurious cashmere, leather and wool in elegant and clean lines, perhaps more suited to New York than a soggy English countryside.

The silhouettes were lean and long with slim trousers, belted coats and seductive trenches. White tailored shirts were paired with equally tailored slim ankle length skirts and glamorous belted camel coats with embellished pockets stole the show, and the fabric was also used for long skirt and pant suits.

Even the gold brocade gowns with their long sleeves and ruched bodices managed to appear effortlessly chic and minimal.

Vivienne Westwood
The closest thing that we will ever get to the type of 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' experience that the Beatles once sung about is attending a Vivienne Westwood Red Label show.

True to form, the show was a vibrant mix of contrasting pieces that even worn individually would be perfectly attention grabbing.

Think brightly coloured tights mixed with clashing equally vibrant tartan skirts, graphic t-shirt sending messages of concern about climate change and a shaggy coat more suited to a character on Sesame Street all combines as one trippy outfit.

Break down the items, pair them down with simple denim and you are sure to still be the coolest kid on the block.

By Tali Shine

Day two of London Fashion Week was an interesting feast to our eyes with many contrasting themes and looks all rolled into one day. New York may be uniform and slick, but London sure is quirky…

Jasper Conran
First up was Jasper Conran, who inspired by the artistic sculptures of Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth, had a dramatic feel to his bright collection.

Fuchsia, tangerine, scarlet, canary yellow and this season's popular colour, cobalt blue, morphed into thigh-skimming, midriff-baring dresses.

Voluminous tops and ballooning capes were pared with skinny pants.

And for a truly futuristic feel, cut out panels on long evening gowns were replaced with shiny PVC and reflective mega sequins and polished cuffs to provide the perfect mirror to watch that space ship take off into the distance.

Julien Macdonald
Next it was off to Julien Macdonald, where interesting details captured our imagination.

‘The big Mac’ produced intricately detailed lace dresses, both mini and maxi.

The laced bodice on the long gown led down to a thigh-high split down the middle chiffon skirt, whilst flesh-revealing mini numbers were spun from weblike lace, which was delicately intertwined with pieces of cobalt blue fabric.

Fur hooded white bomber jackets and chunky sweater dresses were sassy and sporty, and the perfect item to get you from London to Courchevel with no need to change in between.

And if there is one celebrity we foresee sporting many of the designs from this collection, it is English poppet Geri Halliwell.

By Tali Shine

Williamson's friend, front row fashionista Sienna Miller, gushed that for fall 2010, Williamsons brand had reached 'a whole new level', but it may have been more appropriate to say that he has reached a whole new clientele…

Rather than his usual fun and flirty, vibrantly coloured micro mini skirts that can be seen adorning the legs dancing on tables throughout Ibiza, this season had a more grown-up and sophisticated look.

Sure there were still the fun skirts, but the hemlines fell just above the knee rather than just below the underpant line.

Whilst there was still colour, it was in blocks, such as the ruffled blue cobalt dress and shocking pink coat.

The graphic prints were more muted and were mixed against items in solid black, beige and brown. The use of fur may not have been new, but when we spotted the tweed skirt suits with their single ruffled front we had to recheck what show we were in.

Nonetheless clothes were wearable, luxurious and will look as great on Yasmin and Sienna as they will on fellow frown row 'FOM' (friend of Matthew), sixties supermodel Twiggy, who excitedly claimed that she wanted a pair of the fall 2010 harem pants in every colour!

By Tali Shine

The first day of London Fashion Week went off to a rockin’ Aussie start with Sass & Bide flying the antipodean flag loudly and proudly.

Cool kids from Bondi to Beirut and even Paris, Tokyo and London will be black white and metallic all over if Sass & Bide have anything to do with it.

From the tip of the models voluminous birds-nest hair to the soles of their rock and roll heels, the look was pure post modern with a tribal warrior undertone, thanks to geometric prints in bold black and white, accented with silver and gold.

Focus was largely on the décolletage and shoulder area with fur shrugs, bejewelled collars and shoulders, chunky pearls, and wing like shoulder capes surrounding peek-a-boo cut outs on mini dresses, and tops that were matched with skinny jeans, stripped pantaloons, bejewelled skirts and cropped structured tuxedo jackets.

The lace crossed netting fabric used in many of the dresses and tops added both texture and interest and may even appear on 60s icon Twiggy, who happily looked on from the front row.

SPRING/SUMMER COVERAGE: By Tali Shine
(images courtesy of Style.com)

Forget hitting a bull's eye. This show was all about hitting a cat's eye, with cats being a major inspirational theme for Suzanne Clements and Inacio Ribeiro's comeback show.

Known for their quirky prints, Clements Ribeiro did not disappoint, with Warhol-esque cats complete with cats' eyes edged in zippers taking centre stage.

For fashionistas who were not so keen on tapping into their feline side, there was also the option of more classic stripped dresses complete with sailor buttons, monochrome designs and delicious candy coloured pink, blue and cream stripes.

The feel for the show was very Riviera chic, part 1920s, part 1950s and perfect for upcoming seasons, transeasonal weather and bohemian aristocrats, or rather aristo-cats.

From the skirts to the sweaters to the tops and cardigans, this is the ‘purr-fect’ mix-and-match casual chic wardrobe.

SPRING/SUMMER COVERAGE: By Tali Shine

Here is the problem; What if you love classic items like the iconic Burberry trench coat, but want to look modern and fashionable? Fear not. The easy solution is Christopher Bailey's spring 2010 collection for Burberry, which takes the classic trench and makes it into a very modern, mini-skirted item.

Bailey updated the trench by adding ruching, puffed shoulders, fitted sleeves, and used satin, chiffon and even luxurious (though not very PC) fur, rather than just the classic waterproof fabric.

The colour palette of his collection is filled with both Burberry signature neutral beiges, as well as fresh colours, like soft lemons, crisp mints and sea blues, in order to create a look that manages to stay true to the identity of the brand, whilst being very now. A look that is elegant yet sexy, feminine yet strong, and playful yet sophisticated.

The attention to detail in every item that came down the runway was superb and managed to also catch the attention of the celebrity and fashion heavy-weight front-rowers like Anna Wintour, Gwyneth Paltrow, Victoria Beckham and Claudia Schiffer. Schiffer herself looked as though she had just stepped off of the Burberry runway, with her fresh faced natural make-up and blow-dried long hair similar to that of the show's models.

It wasn't just the new trenches that made their way on to our fashion wishlist either. Many pieces caught our eye, from the ruched leggings to the delicate capped sleeved dresses and the skirts made from fabric that was intricately twisted, knotted, weaved and interlocked. And there was also tops with decorative scalloped necklines, and dresses that had elaborate tops and waists that were cinched in using military style belts, leading down to pleated and voluminous skirts. Definitely plenty of texture, mystery and romance to capture our imagination and inspire us to start saving.

Whether you choose to wear one of the dresses on display underneath your new trench, or opt to wear just your trench alone, this collection is the perfect armour as you make your way through the urban jungle.

By Tali Shine

Tuesday morning at London Fashion Week was a case of 'Bamm Bamm, thank you man', with the man we were thanking being American designer Jeremy Scott, showing here in London for the first time…

The gratitude was not necessarily for a collection of wearable or timeless clothes that had been missing from our wardrobes, but rather for a show and a collection that brought a bigger smile to our faces than we thought possible. It was as Scott described “pop fashion with an upbeat twist”.

The time machine has been revved up, and we have been stepping into it all week for collections that referenced eras past and reminded us of various childhood memories. For Scott's Spring 2010 show, we again jumped into it. Only this time we stepped further back - to the Stone Age, and to the childhood joys of watching TV show 'The Flintstones', for a collection of clothes that can only be described as 'The Flintstones' meets 'Married With Children'. Think ankle-length leggings, off the shoulder and one-shouldered mini dresses, swimsuits, bikinis, cropped tops with tight skirts, bomber jackets, fur vests, all finished off with ripped and jagged hems. And there were wild animal prints and vibrantly coloured acid greens, neon oranges, highlighter pinks, aquas and yellows that would make Peggy Bundy and Wilma Flintstone proud.

Celebrity models including Pixie Geldof and Daisy Lowe made their way down the runway with eccentric makeup and crazily permed and teased hair that was finished off not with bows, but rather bones, complementing the bones that were strategically placed on their boudoir worthy high-heeled mules

Men too have the chance to channel their inner Fred Flintstone with Scott sending male models out in brightly coloured and wildly patterned pants, one-shouldered mankinis and multi-coloured sneakers that had wings attached to their sides.

Although the male in your life may not be sold on the mankini, make no bones about it, we are ready to ride the dinosaur and take a walk on the wild side.
