New York Fashion Week was all about rugging up for winter with coats and jackets in voluminous, anti-body-con shapes. There was a plethora of sheath dresses and a selection of Oscar-worthy stunners. Wintry fabrics – leather, tweed, wool and fur – were abundant and paired in dynamic combos. Hair was either slicked back flat or naturally loose, while make-up was mostly incognito. Overall, the season could be summed up as luxuriously wearable with a hint of whimsy.

By Chloe Brinklow

To pick a favourite make up look from New York Fashion Week would be like asking a parent to choose a favourite child, absolutely impossible! But as the images from New York rolled in last week, jaws in the office (literally) dropped, at the sight of some of the amazing make up from the talented team at Bobbi Brown.

Powerful, pretty and daring, it was all we could ask for, and more!

Berry Beautiful Blackberry Lipstick At Wes Gordon

There’s no denying that lipstick is the product-of-the-moment, with girls wearing bright and bold varieties as well as nudes and reds on a daily basis. But the combination of Bobbi Brown Black Berry Lip Colour Stick and Bobbi Brown Black Ruby High Shimmer Lip Gloss (not yet available) really set the look, to be a pout popping favourite.

Paired with a charcoal eye and bronze cheek, Kimberley Soane, the make up artist behind the look, said she was inspired by elegant and flirty film legends, which gelled with Gordon’s vision, as he pulled off a superb, sharp and sexy collection.

Disco Divas At Halston

Models stood on white platforms reminiscent of those, that would have been danced on at Studio 54 in the 70s, which was what the look was all about. Colour blocking, drapery and jewel tones were all on display.

Foundation was kept fresh and dewy for youthful looking skin. With a defined brow and sculpted cheekbones, colour was introduced with a gorgeous, baby pink lip.

Pretty and Powerful At Rachel Roy

Rachel Roy’s collection was powerful and chic, structured yet comfortable! The clothes were designed with a modern traveler in mind. A woman who knows where she is going and how to get there, in style. RESCU favourite: A gorgeous cobalt blue, long sleeve dress, we wish we had hanging in our wardrobe,

To compliment the bright and deep rustic colours of the clothing, the make up was dramatic, with gold, bronze and olive shades. The look was further defined with a contoured cheek. We love!

Natural Beauty at Tibi

Metallic, silk and sheer, the season’s biggest trends appeared on the Tibi runway as expected. Always fashion forward, edgy and cool, the Tibi woman is a creature of minimal sophistication.

Keeping with the theme, make up was kept simple, allowing the model’s natural features to shine through. Skin coloured shadow was applied to the lids, with a heavy application of Black Everything Mascara. The look was finished with Bobbi Brown Beige Lip colour, a new hand bag essential.

Bobbi Gives Back At The Truth Heart Red Dress Runway Show

It seems creating pretty faces isn’t enough for the Bobbi Brown team, who get behind good causes too. New York Fashion Week kicked off last week, with a Truth Heart Red Dress runway show that saw the likes of Dita Von Tesse, Audrina Patridge and Cat Deeley walking the runway for heart disease.

We adored, Audrina Partridge’s Badglet Mischka sequin gown (pictured) and Katrina Bowden’s, Oscar Del A Renta mini. The flawless make up and hair to suit each individual worked well with the celebs on hand.

By Chloe Brinklow

Sometimes fashion week can be a little too much; over-the-top clothing, cartoon style make up and hair you wouldn’t be caught dead with, all take to the runway and celebrities, editors and on lookers love it! Are they crazy? No, not most of the time!

They just look at the collections with a different eye. Selecting key pieces and trends that are transferable to everyday life. They look at the show, as just that, a spectacular, that has the key (even if it is hard to find) to what we will be wearing this season.

RESCU picked our top 5 favourite runway trends that are utterly gorgeous and realistic, for real life…

Great New Lengths At Karen Walker

Definitely not shorts, and not quite long pants, the ¾ trousers (and skirts) on display at Karen Walker are sure to be an A/W staple in the not so cold, Australian climate. A tomboy look, paired with loafers and a crisp blouse, this will be one for the office and every day.

Sheer has never been so sexy at Michael Kors

Popping up at more than one New York Fashion Week show, this trend is feminine and flexible. At Alexander Wang we saw half sheer, half fur sweaters and at Karen walker, cream sheer skirts. But, noting beats, this high neck, little black maxi, with ribbed knit waist and neck detail (pictured) from Michael Kors. We don’t all have to be as daring either, a slip or bandeau under this, would be a little more modest and still look great.

Big And Beautiful Hats At Marc Jacobs

Festival goers and Sunday session regulars will be rejoicing over the Akubra style hats at Marc Jacobs. Simple and chic, it isn’t as daring as the over sized floppy hats that we have favoured this summer. Its structure and colour; they appeared in dark brown, light brown, navy and black, make it perfect for everyday, protecting against the sun or the cold once the temperature drops.

Super Stylish Capes At Alexander Wang

We have all dreamt of being super heroes at one point and with Alexander Wang, this dream can come true. Always at the forefront of garment innovation, the capes on display, came in leather, silk, knit and fur varieties and were a cross between a poncho, dress and jumper. Sound confusing? Not for the faint hearted, this look is for a girl who likes to take risks and stand out from the crowd.

Pretty Pleats At Vera Wang

Pleats are no longer restricted to netball skirts and granny’s wardrobe. They are back in a big way, especially in the maxi variety. Uber chic and super feminine, (we just can’t get enough of the nude Vera Wang dress pictured) this trend is already taking off in real life. Our guess is, pleated floor length skirts in black, khaki, nude and floral will be a staple in every girls A/W wardrobe.

Well, the fashion shows in New York have wrapped now and the fashion pack has moved on to London for the next fall instalment. The Big Apple was warding off its recent big chill at the Fall 2011 fashion collections. Fur was everywhere, if not in coats and jackets, then trimming everything from gloves to glasses.

Of the many overriding trends on offer, one item has emerged as the key piece of the autumn/winter season: the parka. There were the long and the short, the fur-lined or collared, padded and quilted, zipped or toggled. So, to get ahead of the game, start looking for these fabulous coveralls. (Dion Lee’s creation for Cue is a great option, with zip-off hood; in store March 1.) The best thing about the parka is that you can wear with anything and over everything from jeans and trousers through to evening gowns, we’re told. Vera Wang had them over pleated chiffon dresses, contrasting the delicate with the durable.

The 1970s was the overriding decade of reference this season (Marc by Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, L.A.M.B, Diane Von Furstenberg), although Ralph Lauren tipped his hat to the 1920s and Marc Jacobs’ main line gave us a lesson in strict 1940s silhouettes—with a spin, of course.

Scarlet fever cut a swathe through collections, often top to toe, and that true monochromatic trend continued with all-over looks in nude, grey and black.

While the parka was the big-ticket item of the week at labels including Derek Lam, Vera Wang, Max Azria and Anna Sui, the equally practical poloneck underpinned looks from Diane von Furstenberg, BCBG Max Azria, Lyn Devon, Carolina Herrera and Christian Siriano were an inspiration.

There were variations on the tuxedo (thank you, Alexander Wang, Prabal Gurung, Jason Wu and Lauren), and ladylike looks were still in vogue at Donna Karan, Monique Lhuillier, Luca Luca and Jason Wu. And while minimalism was still entrenched at Calvin Klein Collection, embellishment gave it a run for its luxury dollars at Carolina Herrera.

Truly something for everyone—but isn’t that New York’s appeal?

By Chloe Brinklow

It’s that time of year again - the 2011 fashion season is well and truly under way, and new clothing, hair and make up has marched down the New York runway! But what does it mean for us? Everything! Fashion week is a time where new trends are born, and we have the choice to bring them to life or send them packing.

We all have a routine, especially when it comes to beauty; you find something that works, perfect it and stick to it, and really, do you blame us? Busy mornings, back-to-back work meetings and family commitments don’t really allow much spare time to play around with new trends! But if you’re every going to shake things up and try something new, NOW is the time.

Make Up Looks To Break Your Mundane Make Up Routine

Go Out To Space With Derek Lam

At Derek Lam it was all about the eyes! No longer a window to the soul, they looked more like a portal to the future, with a bold, space-age silver shadow! The shadow looked a little out of place (much like the doc-marten style boots) in a collection that seemingly redefined sports and leisurewear. Touches of fur and leather were welcome, but the make up by Tom Pecheux for Estee Lauder was definitely the show stopper.
RESCU Tip: We have a little wait on our hands, with Estee Lauder’s Pure Color collection not launching until winter 2011, but in the mean time, Tom Pecheux’s for Estee Lauder, Pure Colour Eyeshadow ($42 each) in silver bell and black crystals will do the job.

Stay Up From Dawn To Dusk With Rodarte

There is nothing about Rodarte, we didn’t the like! Bringing a certain lightness to the fall season, a powdery colour palette spread through the collection, into floor length silk gowns, 50s inspired A-line skirts and rompers. The hair was side swept, soft and romantic and the make up was neutral, a tinge orange and dusty. What do we like best? That everything is completely wearable!

The lips were a burnt shade of caramel and the face was decorated subtly with bone, beige sculpting powder swept just under the cheekbone. James Kaliardos, who created the look for M.A.C, described the eye as “…a stormy, sunset inspired eye of pale yellow, caramel and a touch of lavender.”

Let Lashes Do The Talking With Venexiana

Napoleon Perdis, resident
make up expert and all round make up pro, created a luxurious,
Europeanesque make up look at Venexiana. Inspired by label founder and
fashion designer, Kati Stern, the look was bold, yet chic -with all eyes
on the lashes!

Models walked down the runway, to punk music, under
harsh white lights and t he show had little uniformity. Plaid 80s fabric
made full-circle, 50s inspired dresses that walked next to floor length
silk gowns, and two wedding dresses closed the show. Confusing? Yes!
Cool? Most certainly.

Get the Look: Napoleon Perdis has the most
amazing range of Lash Patrol Lashes ($20-$25), made of natural hair, in
different styles to suit every occasion and individual. For even more
length and volume, apply a swipe of Napoleon Perdis Mesmer-Eyes Mascara
($35) and there you have it - runway beauty in real life!

Break All The Rules With Betsey Johnson

Maybelline New York, the official make up sponsor for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, has rebelled against the age old make up rule, that told us, never to pair a bold lip with a heavy eye! To-the-brow blue eye shadow and a red lip, (which sounds a little crazy) faded into the background against an over-the-top, colourful and quirky collection that had a cartoony quality - think Alice in Wonderland and Tim Burton movies.

Often with big eyes, there is lots of product needed to achieve enough pop. Powder shadows can be messy, with product falling in unwanted places, beneath the eye and onto the cheeks. Maybelline Tip: When doing a heavy eye look, do the eyes first and foundation second to avoid additional clean up.

Line Up With Vivienne Tam

At Vivienne Tam it was all about a flawless skin, natural lips and bold, defined liquid liner. A RESCU favourite, this look is understated, chic and on trend. We are seeing a move away from pencil liners, as liquid allows a striking finish that really elongates the eye making it appear bigger.
Get The Look: Using Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner ($16.95) start from the middle of the eye and create a line along your lash line, then go up at an angle, to create a perfect edge. For a thick, solid line result, fill in the gaps.

Finish the look with flutter-worthy lashes with Maybelline Volum’ Express FALSIES Mascara ($19.25)

By Chloe Brinklow

Creativity doesn’t stop with the clothes at New York Fashion Week, and here at RESCU HQ we don’t know how the designers do it! Dreaming up hair and make up, creating the perfect soundtrack and setting, and consulting with the best in the business, is all in a day’s work!

Today’s scoop? The hair! From buns to blowouts to quiffs and Pollyannas, RESCU brings you what’s hot off the Runway, with tips and tricks to recreate the styles at home.

We Like Big Buns At Donna Karan

Buns are the new Black - or the new ponytail at least! And we think the bigger, the better! Die hard, Sex and the City fans will remember Carrie Bradshaw’s penchant for the regal up-do, and our guess is, Donna Karan referenced some old S&TC episodes for inspiration!

Sky-high and slick, this do is a dressier version of the wispy top-knot, and more grown up than the classic ballerina bun, typically worn a little lower. Perfect for a night out or a special occasion, this elegant, supersized up do, works best with long, thick hair and really accentuates cheekbones and eyes.

Rock Out With Your 'Blow Out' With DKNY

The hair at DKNY was part 60s flower child, part Charlie’s Angels, circa 1970. Picture perfect blow drys were ‘roughened up’ into a more creative and contemporary style, Eugene
Souleiman, explained, “It’s all about creating the perfect look and then bringing in imperfection, in this look we’ve done that by adding texture for a raw, sexy, ‘lived in’ look”

Worn with the hip and spirited collection, created by Donna Karan and inspired by New York City, we couldn’t imagine the hair any other way. It gelled perfectly with the black and white colour palette, that temporarily allowed glimpses of red, orange and navy to shine through.

Quiffs and Pollyanna at Peter Som

A half up, half down style, has never looked so sexy! “I was inspired by the heroines from the old Hitchcock movies to create a classic 50s up-do and then deconstruct it so that it looks rawer.,” Eugene Souleiman said.

RESCU tip: When experimenting with this style in real life, it is important to remember its all about the texture! Use a sea salt spray, we love: Wella Professionals High HairOcean Spritz Beach Texture Spray ($23.50) to rough-it-up. To really perfect the look, start with damp hair, blow drying once the style is complete.

Structured and fluid at Vera Wang

Bold and romantic, this hair style was all about contrast, especially when it comes to texture. “Hair on top is shiny and smooth and falls completely back from the face, and becomes more matte as it’s shaped into a voluminous pony-roll, with loose strands falling down the back,” Orlando Pita at Orlo for Moroccanoil, who created the look explained.

This style requires a lot of hair spray especially on top for a real, gritty glamour finish. RESCU recommends: Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray (330ml), $34.50. To strengthen the hold, for longer wearability, spray front and sides, combing backwards, then do a quick blast of the hair dryer! This will set the hairspray making it stronger.

Sideways buns at Carolina Herrera

According to Orlando Pitta, tousled hair is over, and we are moving to a more ‘done’ and polished place, in the styling arena. Complimenting the super chic and vastly monotonous colour palette of the clothing, the side parted front was paired with an inventive horizontal bun.

Instead of rolling or twisting the hair to create this bun, Pitta suggest tucking, almost like an envelope then securing with pins. Moroccanoil® Treatment (100ml), $49.50, is a secret, not so best kept! Apply before any styling to give hair a smooth and silky sheen while also strengthening and conditioning.
They say what comes around goes around. And if NYFW A/W Beauty is anything to go by, ‘they,’ would have to be correct! After taking a leave of absence and letting ‘gloss’ do the talking (at least for a little while) lipstick is back in the beauty arena and ready to woo the masses, one decorated pout, at a time!

We can’t help but notice a 90s influence, thankfully extending only as far as the make up - with overalls and ill fitting t.shirts staying in the archives! Strong, precise make up, namely dark or red lips were showcased this week in New York, adding drama to collections by Diane von Furstenberg and Altuzarra.

He wanted the look to be well put together, “She’s glamorous, but anyone can do this,” he said.
Paired with a very minimal, natural base and a semi smokey eye, created with shadow not liner, the red lips stood their own, in a very good way!
Gloss is over and liner is no longer needed, but to make your lipstick last, a lip primer is essential. RESCU recommends: Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot Lip Service ($28) Simply apply straight from the tube or with a lip brush and allow to dry for 30 seconds before swiping on your favourite pack-a-punch red lip shade. We can’t get enough of M.A.C Pro Long Wear Lipcreme in pro long ($40) which can be sealed with M.A.C Pro Longwear Gloss Coat ($32) for high impact shine and colour locking.

Say good bye to all the make up rules, you have learnt and lived by your entire life – farewell, adios, cya later! According to Tom Pecheux for M.A.C, dark lips and statement eyes, are totally fine to pair together! Not for the faint hearted though, this look is as cool, as it is crazy, with Pecheux describing it as, “Glam Rock.”

The eyes are more grey then black with shadow extending far past the eye (horizontally) finishing right up in the hair line. Lips should be red but with burgundy/brown undertones to pull of a truly tough, powerful, statement make up look.

RESCU tip: The looks we are seeing in New York, are designed with cooler weather in mind and reds lips, especially paired with over-the-top charcoal eyes are a token winter ensemble! If you’re busting at the seams to rock the look though, keep it for evening or special occasions, once the temperature drops, your practice will make perfect, in pout-popping fashion!

By Chloe Brinklow

Pain is NOT beauty according to Mr Alexander Wang! Messy bed hair, low maintenance make up and oversized sweatshirts were sent down the runway yesterday and women all over the globe, are rejoicing that the latest fashion and beauty from Wang is easy-to-pull off, comfortable and wearable, while remaining utterly gorgeous!

The Clothes

While the footwear was interesting, to say the least (we aren’t sure if we will be rushing out to buy quilted, puffy leg warmers or fluffy, fur peep toes) the clothing was a picture of understated chic!

Leather, fur, jersey and satin were some of the many fabrics on display, where black, grey and nude set the typical androgynous Wang tone, with hints of metallic cobalt blue and maroon to keep things interesting!

Slouchy ponchos, diagonal hem dresses and trousers that gathered at the ankle were viewed, while Wang playfully experimented with mixing unlikely combinations, half fur, half sheer jumpers and silk drapery paired with leather pants were some of his more innovative creations. The best part of the collection? All of it! It is completely wearable for any woman.

The Hair

Alexander Wang is to hair, what Chanel’s Peter Phillips is to nails, a trend setting extraordinaire! He first, introduced us to the fishtail side plait and a season later gritty, slick-top hair with dishevelled ends! At RESCU we can’t help but predict the low, loose, no-fuss pony tail seen yesterday (created by Guido Palau for Redken) will be worn with the same popularity!
This is one hair do that is as easy as 1-2-3, literally!

1.	Wash your hair using a good quality shampoo and conditioner. RESCU recommends: Redken All Soft Shampoo and Conditioner ($27 each) Starting this style with fresh, clean hair is a must, because any weight caused by dirt and oil will prevent a wispy, light-weight finish.

2.	Depending on the length of your hair, (this style works best on mid to long lengths) loosely secure a pony tail 5-15cm lower then you usually would, ideally in the middle of your shoulder blades using a hair tie that matches the colour of your hair for blend.
3.	Pull random bits from the front of you hair, allowing some to hang loosely around the face and tuck remaining bits behind the ears. The look embraces the natural texture of your hair but if you are concerned about frizz, a little bit of lightweight serum like Redken, Real Control Slim Supreme ($29) will finish the look.

The Make Up

Minimal and fresh, this look by Diane Kendall for M.A.C cosmetics had an emphasis on bold brows. Thin is definitely not in, with the models pouncing down the runway with a likeness to home-grown model, Bambi’s over the top, gorgeous, bushy brows. Lips were nude while eyes looked smudgey with a slick oily finish. The base was kept natural and cheeks remained cleverly colourless, ensuring all eyes were on the brows!

Recreate the Look With RESCU

Using MAC’s Brow Shader ($32), a pressed powder alternative to an eyebrow pencil, focus on filling in any gaps in brows and volumise by brushing brows in an upward motion away from the eye. Slick on MAC Brow Set ($28), a brush on gel formula, to set and add drama for a seriously slick finish. With a wave of Woo-me lip gloss, a pinky-nude shade ($43) from the new MAC Peackocky collection, your fresh-faced, minimal make up look is complete!

By Chloe Brinklow

New York Fashion Week has well and truly kicked off and at RESCU we can’t get enough of the glorious fashion and beauty that has already taken to the runway! From simple and chic to bright and bold, we are bringing you what’s hot, from one of the most respected arenas in the fashion world.

First cab off the rank, BCGMAXAZARIA didn’t disappoint! A sophisticated and elegant display of neutral, floaty and whimsical garments, paired with minimal hair and make up blew the minds of all who watched, including Ashanti who tweeted from her front row seat, “Had a blast @ @bcbgmaxazria fashion show thanks guys!!”

RESCU’s Verdict Plus Tips And Tricks To Recreate The Beauty Looks..

The Clothes...

The tonal collection wowed the crowd with effortless simplicity! Most garments were worn over, skin tight, white, almost-sheer turtle necks, that stood in stark contrast against the fluid, airy dresses and prints that floated down the catwalk. Flashes of brights, kept things interesting in a sincerely chic, neutral collection. The clothing looked timeless, without being ‘already-done,’ suitable for any age demographic.

What are we coveting…?

The tan trench coat inspired dress, with black collar and embellishments! So wearable and warm, perfect for colder weather! Plus the maroon square neck maxi, worn with waist belt, to elongate the torso. A picture of suave, elegance, for evening or that very special occasion!

The Hair

Slick is chic, and here to stay if this show is anything to go by! Neil Moodie from Bumble and Bumble, sent sophisticated, not a strand out of place hair down the catwalk, complete with sharp side parts, and super straight pony tails that sat at the nape of the neck.

The sharpness and simplicity of the hair allowed the clothes to take centre stage, whilst framing the faces of gorgeous models who walked, including; Arizona Muse, Sigrid Agren and Frida Gustavsson (who we just can’t get enough of right now).

RESCU Guide To Recreate The Slick, Low Pony Tail.

One of the easiest D.IY hairstyles in the book! Using the centre of you eyebrow as a guide (on your preferred side) use the end of a fine tooth comb to get a straight-down-the line side part. Use a strong hold hair spray, RESCU loves: Shaper Fierce by Sebastian Professional (30ml/$9.50) and comb hair slick and secure with hair tie at nape of the neck. Use your hair straightener to finish the ends, for super sleek, straight locks.

The Make Up

Say it with me, “Neutral, neutral and more neutral”. Forget summer bronze and bold lips, Charlotte Willer at Maybelline New York created a minimal look, with a focus on blended, beautiful eye shadow with soft, next-to-nothing lips. Why RESCU loved it? It’s a more than wearable, everyday, night or day look that is quick, convenient and easy to create.
Apply more product and pressure as you move to the outer areas, which will help elongate your eye. Finish with a stroke of Maybelline New York Volum’ Express FALSIES Mascara ($19.25) focusing on the bottom lashes, to really open the eye and Voila!

By Tali Shine

It was 'Valley of the Dolls' visits the 'Jungle Book' at Mulberry as models made their way down the runway with coiffed, doll-like hair and make-up, in miniature clothing to the sounds of music from The Jungle Book, whilst glittering leopards circle the runway and more than a hint of animal printed fabric was used in the designs.

The regal setting of Kensington Palace was a perfect backdrop for the quirky, aristocratic party dresses that had more than a touch of youthful frivolity to them.

Ruffled bodices, puffed bell skirts and coats, embellished necklines and floral prints are perfect for that English garden party.

For those wishing to get more in touch with their wild side, the cropped jackets and thigh-skimming skirts in neutral animal prints with accents of lime, blue and metallics are a look that will have you bagging whomever or whatever your cat’s eye desires…

Chances are that when you hear the name Vera Wang, it conjures up images of mountains of white tulle, flowing from a white beaded bustier, with the sound of wedding bells filling the air.

Not so for Wang's Fall 2010 collection, which was inspired by Film Noir. It is sassy, seductive and very New York City black.

More dark heroine than fairytale princess, hair was coiffed, gloves were long and luxurious fabrics, like duchess satin, created a dramatic feel, especially when used on draped tops, one-shouldered dresses and strapless formfitting cocktail numbers.

For the more mysterious siren, the black tuxedo jackets and skinny pants are a perfectly elegant evening offering.

Like many of the shows this season, fur appeared on the runway and in the audience. One of the short sleeved, fur trimmed wool coats modelled in the show was also seen front row, on the high priestess of fashion herself, Anna Wintour, a sure sign of approval.

There were also sporty elements- think sequined tank dresses, draped tunics and easy-to-move-in slouchy black pants, which added a modern feel and the only white lace to be found was on the occasional corsage and camisole.

By Tali Shine

Far, far East from her bridal lace creations, the only lace found at this show, which was inspired by Shanghai nights, was the black lace hosiery that perfectly complemented the oriental colour scheme of red, gold and black.

The Lhuillier lady does not wear the pants you see, simply because she does not own any. She much prefers day dresses in exquisite red jacquard, silk skirt suits and show-stopping gowns embellished with black sequins as well as flow length creations, complete with hundreds of tiny silk roses in vibrant stand out red.
That, of course, is not to say that with all her romance, she lacks power.

Reminding us of her strength, there were plenty of warrior inspired touches. From the high necked collars to gold cuffs and dragon motifs on army suits, she would rather make love- but is also prepared for war!

There are two Oscars worth having. The first is one of those little gold statues and the second is anything from Oscar de la Renta's Fall 2010 collection.

Whilst attaining one of those little gold statues usually requires a major glam down (think Charlize in 'Monster', Nicole in 'The Hours' and Grace in 'The Country Girl'), Oscar de la Renta is all about glamour, dressing up and luxury.

The Fall 2010 collection was no exception, it was Park Avenue Princess (think ladylike gloves, tailored day coats finished with mink hems and cuffs, baby soft cashmere co-ordinates, graphic print beading on cocktail dresses, a-line day dresses and luxurious silk evening gowns), meets Russian Royalty.

Beyond the Romanov worthy fur hats and matching clutch bags, there were other touches to bring out your inner Oligarchess, including oversized gold earrings, and regal jewel coloured fabrics like magenta, teal and emerald, which were like a treasure chest amongst the classic black and cream.

Georgina Chapman really is that little girl who must have thought “when I grow up I want to be a Princess”…

But now that she is all grown up and living the life of a Hollywood Princess, her mission is to dress glamorous women on red carpets all around the world. Her Fall collection with business partner Keren Craig, like seasons before, carries out this dream.

Appropriately shown in the Chelsea Art Gallery, the designs are pure artistic delight. Inspired by dancer and courtesan Lola Montez, there is all the tulle, feathers, beading and ruffles expected, sculptured onto moulded gowns and finished with a new technique called 'pinwheel pleating', which adds swirling volume to the hem.

The collection revealed delicate grey, sorbet pink, vanilla and pale toffee colours. And there were also stronger colours, like magenta, black and scarlet to match the soles of your towering Louboutins - the only other item needed to accessorise these
wearable art creations.

We are happy that there are so many awards season events coming up, giving stars the opportunity to waft down the red carpet in these whimsical and delightful creations.

Sticking perfectly to the ethos of the brand, Calvin Klein's Fall 2010's offerings were sleek and simple right down to the models’ slicked side ponytails and minimal make-up.

The lines of the clothes were as clean as we expected with chic pin tucked dresses, cocoon coats, leather trousers, trench coats, moulded silhouettes in a classic colour palette of ivory, grey and black with contrasting dresses in bright cobalt blue bringing the collection to life and the sky-high platform heels, adding power and helping the modern Calvin Klein woman to smash through that glass ceiling.

We at RESCU could not help but smile at the Antipodean take over in the front row with both actresses Isabel Lucas and Naomi Watts flying the flag for down under.

By Tali Shine

There was something for everyone at Badgley Mischka. Sidestepping from only showing gorgeous red-carpet worthy offerings, they made sure that this season they offered something for many glamorous occasions, both day and night.

The Badgley Mischka show opened with the traditional Oscar worthy, floor-skimming gowns, complete with mountains of tulle, bedazzling beading and Princess Di worthy midnight blue one-shouldered gowns that we expected from the label.

There was even the type of strapless ball gown covered in delicate flowers made of chiffon roses that inspires young girls to dream and say “when I grow up I want to be a princess or a ballerina”.

But for the modern women, or perhaps more appropriately for the modern economic climate, the duo also showed their more contemporary line, this time taking their first names, 'Mark and James'.

Perfectly filling in their modern day Princesses’ needs, this range was filled with woollen sweater dresses, caplet jackets and leggings. Only these were not traditional gym leggings, not unless you want to attempt your Pilates class in the leather, lace or sequined variety…

By Tali Shine

If we thought there may be a break from grown-up glamour as we stepped into the kingdom of the King of Cool, Marc Jacobs, for his A/W 2010 show, we were wrong…

Marc Jacobs
As Jacobs himself ripped brown paper off of a box to reveal his models, we still expected that cutting edge collection. Instead we realised that if even Marc wanted us to, then this season we are going to embrace a 'lady who lunches' lifestyle, join some charity committees, or start hanging out in Canberra in the hope of landing a politician- because that is what our new wardrobes are going to dictate.

Forget the 80s pop inspired collection from last season, we were now greeted with demure hemlines, mostly falling on or below the knee, trench coats, crushed velvet dresses and a colour palette to match, where camels, beiges and taupes take centre stage.

Donna Karan
Whilst Jacobs banned A-list celebrities from his front row, our next stop, Donna Karan provided the constellation of grown-up stars we were looking for. Here it was in the form of Demi Moore, Brooke Shields and Susan Sarandon.

Doing what she does best, Karan provided pure feminine masculinity in slick New York City black, with the occasional eggplant tone thrown in and 'I mean business' red glossed lips to finish the look.

Flounced skirts, sculptured black suits and coats mixed in flowing draped silk and ruffled, layered organza backless tops, which added the perfect balance of softness to the tough city feel.

By Tali Shine

If Carolina Herrera's designs are for the mother then the next stop, Zac Posen provided perfect offerings for her daughter.

As notes from Israeli violinist Miri Ben-Ari filled the air and flowers, that were designed by artist Rosson Crow, appeared on fabrics Posen himself claimed that "If I do dress Upper East Side women, it's just because I've had the immediate opportunity. But I see my clothes all over the country and in Sydney".

We are pretty sure though that his clothes appear on the Upper East side, well, because they are well suited there.

Unlike his previous collection that comprised of debutante worthy ball gowns, the look this season was short and sharp with clean lines and more than a touch of luxury.

Hemlines appeared minx-ingly short with ruffles appearing from structured jackets. Silhouettes were tailored with jackets and high waisted trousers.

Turtlenecks were paired with mini skirts and there was plenty of uptown fur used as well as a colour palette of grey, camel, bronze chocolate, black, raspberry and purple.

The architectural feel to some of the clothes, perhaps inspired by the tall buildings that line Park Avenue, particularly a strapless bronze cocktail dress, as well as other items were 'construction on the outside' or '40s Futurism' as Posen called it. This meant clothes that have contrasting pieces of fabrics joined together and a glamorously modern take on a past era.

By Tali Shine

Day five of fashion week was always going to be serious business with such serious designers showing today. The fact that it also happened to be Presidents’ Day may explain the (first) ladylike designs and demure offerings.

Bergdorf Blondes and Brunettes at Carolina Herrera

Poker straight blow dry? Check
Pearl necklace and diamond stud earrings? Check
Limo and waiting chauffer? Check
Lunch reservations at The Four Seasons uptown? Check

Now, where did I put the coat I was going to wear? The one from Carolina Herrera's Fall 2010/11 collection in regal blue with luxurious fur cuffs and trimming around the collar?

Whilst Carolina herself said that women have “buyer's remorse no matter what the economy is doing”, her clientele can rest assured that they are making good investments.

After all buying Carolina Herrera clothes is more akin to 'heirloom dressing'. Elegant clothes that won't date or look inappropriate for many seasons to come. Opulent, ladylike luxury.

The type of woman who buys Herrera is not flashy or immodest, but she is unashamedly rich, groomed and leads a glamorous life. She will indeed find an appropriate occasion to wear the dramatic one-shouldered cocktail dress made from rich magenta velvet and silver jacquard, as well as the floor length, ice blue gown made from wisps of chiffon.

She adores the fur trims that softly sit around her collar on her cuffs and her overcoat. The feathers that cover her cocktail dress and the dramatic embroidery that starts at her shoulder and finishes at the hem, which delicately skims her Manolo Blahnik jewelled mule delight her.

The dramatic hat and wide legged trousers paired with a tailored and belted jacket are de rigueur for her daytime activities and she just loves the bowed neckties, lace gloves and the way that regal blues, deep raspberry, neutrals and florals are paired
with fur and mohair wool separates.

Like many previous seasons, this collection is grown up elegance that somehow manages to simultaneously remain youthful.

By Tali Shine

Back to nature- fashionista style …With love in the air on day 4 of fashion week, we set off to see rising star Thakoon.

Thakoon (as pictured left)

After all when just like Thakoon you have Anna Wintour's nod of approval, even the cold weather shouldn't dampen your spirits.

The theme of the show was 'back to nature, primitive and earthy' and as models appeared with wild hair in textured clothes made of fur and suede with mixed layers, textures and proportions, the fashion pack were relieved they could 'get back to nature' by donning these creations- rather than by rolling out the LV tent and going camping.

Hooded jackets and tracksuit crossed with harem pants as fashion wear in deep grey mixed things up yet still remained luxurious, as did whimsical chiffon with flounced and ruched details in delicate ivory, ebony and muted mustard.

The tiger print dress drew gasps from the audience and is a perfect ode to the year of the tiger.

Next it was time for clued up fashionistas to look Clueless. Clueless the movie that is- as nineties backpacks, over-the-knee socks, bare midriffs, pleated minis mixed with tuxedo tails made their way down the catwalk with a slightly gothic, tailored edge.

Russian royalty filled the room with Natalia Vodianova modelling and designer/gallery owner/ fashion editor/ Oligarchess Dasha Zhukova looking on from the front row.

Luca Luca

Modern Uptown Minx …Fittingly it was time for some romance with Luca Luca, where classic uptown chic was shaken up and modernised to create a look that made potential uptight ladylike look so refreshingly now, so modern and so chic.

By mixing fabrics and styles, a timelessly elegant look that works in both the day and night, uptown or downtown was perfectly created.

We love the sheer ivory blouse combined with a black leather, middle split pencil mini finished off with a neat ponytail and racy red lips.

We also adored the princessy ivory chiffon skirts with ballerina bejewelled bodice, dresses with key holes cut out, luxurious fur jackets, ethereal Grecian gowns of white and gold, funked up with heavier ankle boots, demure coats over structured dresses, which managed to combine demure fabrics and colours with seductive lines and just the right amount of skin, finished off with suggestive yet ladylike leather gloves. Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, where are you?
