RESCU spoke with Carolyne Gowen, a meditation practitioner of 16 years and teacher of the practice trained by Deepak Chopra, about how taking up meditation has impacted positively upon her life, she said:

“Meditation has made a dramatic difference to who I am, I love passing on the gift of meditation to others. The truth is by meditating everyone has the best chance of tapping into their core consciousness, and by bringing it into their daily lives, help define and ultimately achieve their goals for 2012. Whether people want to give up a vice or adopt fresh habits, by taking 20 minutes out of their day to stop and meditate a whole new world of possibilities opens up. Meditation is a journey to the centre of our very being, which allows us to have greater peace, love and success. The technique I teach is practical, simple and really enjoyable and the benefits accrue rapidly.”

"For me I believe everyone is psychic. Everyone is born as a psychic child. My journey started when I was 3. I was seeing things that most people didn't see. I was able to pick up on detail. My first day at school was crazy. A little girl in kindy wouldn't stop crying. Her mother had passed away but I had said to her that she's lucky that her mum didn't go home. The girl started crying harder. I later learned that I had seen the mother's spirit as clear as seeing another person in the room and thought the little girl's mother had not left her alone in kindy"

RESCU: What exactly do you define as intuition?
Mitchell Coombes: Intuition is an inner knowing. Being connected to energy and being in tune to the energies and learning.

RESCU: When do kids lose their psychic ability?
Mitchell Coombes: from 7-8 ability often begins to fade, as kids get older they start to buy into dogma and be influenced by cultural or religious norms. We become more swayed or as I say 'polluted'. Kids are just recently here from the 'other side' and are close to spiritual beings.

RESCU: What are the key factors that influence our levels of intuition?
Mitchell Coombes: Lack of inhibition is a big factor to being intuitive. Silent time, meditation and clearing time in your day ensures your intuition is fine tuned. Kids have less stress and less external stimulation than adults so they are more naturally intuitive without interference.

RESCU: What can we do to enhance our own intuition?
Mitchell Coombes: Just find time to be in silent 'meditation'. Go into a quiet space in your mind. Find time just to listen to your own inner voice. Even 5 minutes a day is enough to start.

RESCU: You talk about a Psychic antenna- what are the signals to receive?
Mitchell Coombes: Tune in to feelings in your tummy when you meet new people. Do you feel dizzy, fuzzy or sick?

RESCU: What are some other signs to look out for and focus on?
Mitchell Coombes: Coincidences! Have you ever thought of someone and they call? The song you are humming comes on the radio? Have you ever run into someone right after you've thought about them? These are all examples of your psychic antenna becoming fine tuned.

RESCU: What if our intuition sends us a warning? What do we do?
Mitchell Coombes: The world is a sea of psychic energy so I always recommend you practise psychic protection. If you feel exhausted from talking to someone, if you feel ravenous after meeting up with an old friend or a business acquaintance, then someone might be draining your energy.

RESCU: Do you have any tips for shaking off toxic energy? What are some techniques we can incorporate into our lives to diffuse tensions, stress and turn around a negative situation?
Mitchell Coombes: Try these very simple and effective exercises:
Golden Light: Visualise being surrounded by a sphere of golden light. The light will protect and cleanse your energy field from any toxic energy.

Dissolving a psychic chord or attachment: You can have residual negativity from old grudges. If you ever feel that suddenly you are depleted, it may be from someone's negative energy. If you come into contact with a difficult person, visualise the person surrounded by pink light and send them love. Or visualise standing in a circle with mirrors reflecting out.

Bad Neighbours: Get a little mirror to reflect out toward the neighbour's house from your window or front door. This will reflect back the negativity and you may help them move along. Protect yourself each day before you leave the house. Visualise the light going over your head and under your feet. A little lavender oil on the back of your neck helps clean your aura. After cleaning your house and doing the laundry, get some sage and burn white sage throughout the house. This clears thoughts, conversations, energy from visitors and dirt.

Dissolving tension in a friendship: When speaking to the friend in question, put your left hand on your heart as this opens up the heart centre to that person. This sends a message that you're open to them on a different level. Visualise sending that person love and pink light.

RESCU: What about the big one- how do you deal with a busted up romance?
Mitchell Coombes: With regards to ex husbands or ex boyfriends, I believe the universe has a marvellous way of working things out. My tip: don't involve yourself. Cleansing and cutting chords are the way to go. Visualise all these chords between yourself and your ex being cut. This will release both of you from negativity, stress and allow you to move forward.

RESCU: Back to intuition. Any other tips?
Mitchell Coombes: Listen if you hear your own voice guiding you. Perhaps you suddenly change traffic direction only to find you miraculously missed an accident. Being busy all the time is like deafness to your inner voice and intuition. Practise being silent and still.

RESCU: Do you have any tips for parents to teach kids?
Mitchell Coombes: I always suggest that you don't coach or push your child's psychic skill. If they come to you and say that they feel strange around anyone, be prepared to listen and not negate their feelings. Keep balance in their life. Boundaries are your children's best protection. Parents should keep a journal of what the children tell them. Encourage the kids to draw pictures, and quietly and calmly discuss these with them.

RESCU: Any final tips on enhancing our own intuition and psychic abilities?
Mitchell Coombes: Yes! Always ask: how do I feel about this? Stop asking for other people's opinions!! I also recommend these basic steps.
1. Connect back to nature
2. Keep dream journal
3. Contact and ask your spirit guide for answers
4. Protect yourself from negativity and psychic attacks
5. Listen and trust your inner feelings.

RESCU: What do you see in the future for RESCU?
Mitchell Coombes: I see two gold stars which mean prosperity and going from strength to strength. I also see RESCU Launching as an app.

If you’re worried about how exercise might affect your pelvic floor, you’re not alone – according to a top Australian physiotherapist, many women start an exercise programme only to develop serious pelvic floor problems as a result. But there is good news! Through effective fitness and strength training you can get your pelvic floor in peak condition this season – and beyond.

Internationally-renowned physiotherapist and author of Inside Out, Michelle Kenway, says women can unknowingly increase their risk of pelvic floor dysfunction through inappropriate exercise.“After gynaecological surgery, childbirth and with menopause, a woman’s pelvic floor becomes increasingly vulnerable. Staying active and exercising effectively can therefore become incredibly confronting for women suffering from pelvic floor problems,” says Kenway.“I hear so many stories from women about how they’ve injured themselves at the gym from doing inappropriate core abdominal and strength exercises, potentially putting their pelvic floor – and overall health – at risk. It’s a daunting prospect for women to exercise with confidence and protect their pelvic floor when they don’t have the resources or knowledge to do it properly.”

The Brisbane-based physiotherapist, who has treated hundreds of women for pelvic floor problems, says her book Inside Out aims to provide an essential women’s guide to pelvic support, helping to educate and inspire women through pelvic floor safe general exercise and improved pelvic floor fitness.“Whether you have pelvic floor dysfunction, are returning to exercise after vaginal surgery, have vaginal or rectal prolapse and are wanting to exercise, are menopausal and exercising for strength and osteoporosis, have exercise associated incontinence or are simply returning to exercise after childbirth, Inside Out teaches you how to choose effective fitness and strength exercises that minimise the risk of pelvic floor injury,” says Kenway.

The University of Sydney, BreastScreen NSW and Ziltron have joined together to developed a pioneering web-based program to monitor the performance of radiologists in detecting and diagnosing abnormalities in breast x-rays.

The BREAST Project aims to improve the early detection of breast cancer through screening, therefore reducing breast cancer mortality and morbidity.

BreastScreen Australia is attempting to maximise the number of breast cancers diagnosed early, allowing for early treatment of breast cancer and improving outcomes for women.

Professor Patrick Brennan from the University of Sydney’s Faculty of Health and Sciences says: “The project supports this through increasing the opportunity for radiologists to monitor their performance and receive feedback following examination of series of test cases.”

The BreastScreen Reader Assessment Strategy (BREAST) uses digital screen-reading test sets designed to assess the performance of the user in correctly identifying abnormalities on mammograms and in interpreting whether or not the lesions identified pose a risk of breast cancer.

New research has found that Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is causing premature deaths among Australian women because of age and a lack of accessible healthcare.

According to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians’ Internal Medicine Journal, CVD is most prominent in older women as well as those living in rural areas who lack access to healthcare specialists. The research also shows that women in rural areas have a higher incidence and lower survival rate of CVD compared to those in metro areas.

Women are urged to see a doctor as soon as possible if they think they may have symptoms of heart disease.

Dr Paul Bridgman, Internal Medicine Journal Cardiology editor and practicing cardiologist says:

“Better management of CVD risks will not only impact the life expectancy of thousands of Australian women, it will have a beneficial impact on the healthcare system, including lowering the existing burden on hospitals and on the healthcare system.”
